Any sellers here use thermal printers for ebay/PP shipping labels?

I have had it with expensive ink, shipping labels and constant paper jams when I print USPS labels through ebay/paypal in my inkjert. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on thermal label printers, and any recommendations as well if I were to make the switch.

Yes, we have two that we use. One is a Brother QL-700 and a Dymo 4XL. The Brother works very well. On the other hand, the Dymo 4XL absolutely sucks to use. It wastes tons of labels randomly printing extra blank labels or reprinting a label you have just printed.

I have a Dymo label printer at work and use it for all my labels, works great, never had a problem. I have no idea of the cost of the printer itself, but I believe it's about 5 cents a label and comes 220 labels per roll.

My best,

Ken

DYMO 4XL here. No problems with the 4XL at all.

Switching to a thermal printer was one of the best things I've done. No more worrying about ink and print ink running once I mail an item. I save on ink, tape and paper.

Can you print USPS first class international labels with them via ebay/paypal? I read an FAQ that said international labels need to be printed on a 8.5x11 sheet

Also heard with the Dyno 4xl you need sign up for encidia which is $9.99/mo? Is this true or can I just simply hit print when my label is created and have it print out without having to run through additional software to do so.

If the Endicia portion is true - the cost will offset anything gained by the cost of ink. I have used Endicia for a couple of years, they are great and it is fantastic to have their services however they also do not get the USPS discount that you get when shipping through eBay. So a package shipped from the States to Canada costs me about $0.60 more - adds up quick.

I was in Costco last week - they were marketing a $200 HP printer/scanner pretty hard when I was in there - the guy said that it uses less than 10% of the ink of rest of the printers on the market. That would certainly pay for itself pretty quickly if true.

Have been meaning to go back and check it all out when I don't have the kids in tow but haven't made it yet.

So Endicia is a must because I've read that I can print directly from eBay? If I don't get the eBay discount with endicia then I might as well keep what I have or just get a better inkjet printer since I sell bigger items that require Priority mail and my 10-30% savings on shipping is HUGE.

3oz package within the States is $1.93 on Endicia
2oz package to Canada costs $6.16

Maybe there is another tier of Endicia membership that one can buy but this is the one that runs $10 a month.

Yea, the 60c savings alone on the Candian 2oz label is worth keeping my current set-up, not to mention the $2-5 I save on 3-4lb Priority mail packages. If I go with Encidia, i'd lose close to $1000 a year on higher shipping fees.
