I have this card from way back when I was working on the 03/04 Artifact Autofact /100 set.
If I remember correctly it was a redemption, however VERY few were actually honored and most had replacements sent. I've only ever seen 2, (this one and the one a fellow set collector, leedsutd had).
Just trying to find out some more info, does that story seem correct to anyone else?
Have you seen others?

Just to clarify real quick, that's the 05-06 set, which was the first year Artifacts existed.

If I recall (and I'm going to turn to Quincy for a second set of eyes since he's the one that told me about this originally,) 05-06 that was the year Sundin had a bit of a blowup with Upper Deck over the wording in his contract and the request to sign "cards," and the fact that he was being asked to sign Ice Scripts cards, which were technically pieces of plastic and not necessarily trading cards. So it wouldn't surprise me that those cards weren't initially made since he never signed for UD again until this year.

The sticker on that card and the fact that it's black ink leads me to believe that it's just UD using his stickers from the 05-06 BAP autograph set to fulfill redemptions.

I can't do much for helping gauge rarity outside of admitting I've never seen one before, but I hope the info above helps a bit.

I checked my Sundin auto stash, and I don't have that one, so it must be fairly rare as I hoarded his autos for quite a while back then. I'm pretty sure Chad's assesment is bang on, because I remember waiting, and waiting for those to surface. As a matter of fact I thought I was told it wasn't gonna be made, so I gave up on it.

I'm thinking that only a handful ever got out for redemption. Sundin was not the only player during that time frame that had issues signing for Upper Deck. I know Rick Nash also refused to sign for quite a while around that time, because of non-payment (that story came from his agent, so I believe it to be true). I also had a chance to spend some time with Jeff O'Neill, and he also told us several players had not been paid up to date, and were not signing until they got their money. In the end it all got worked out for both parties.

Let's not forget too, that Mats never usually signed very many autos over the years, and most of the releases he was in were very short printed. The guy just didn't like to sign. He refused to do public signings, too. I see now that he's retired he's been signing a lot more frequent.
