Anyone familiar with this McDavid YG error?

I was speaking to a local dealer yesterday about this card. I guess the guy who bought the card is local, and thinks he hit a "Million Dollar Card", and is already trying to put out "feelers" before he even gets the card in.

(Notice the silver foil goes right through Connor McDavid's name on the card.)

I thought it was strange that Beckett graded it purely as a YG so high, and didn't mention on the slab that it's an "error".

Looking on FeeBay, I see 2 others having sold, ungraded, for about half the price.

Curious on thoughts, like I said, I thought the grading was odd.

I think that those were out of the retail blasters or the retail boxes themslves if im not mistaken....i remember a member here mentioning it in a show and tell.
I would liken this to McKinnons Pink spot and i believe beckett dod the same in this grade of a 9.5.
How rare are these and is anyone going to put a multiplier on it...i personally wouldnt and wouldnt pay a premium for it.
Nice card eitherway but not a million dollar one...

i hit a bunch of the series 1 yg's with the foil just about covering the entire players name.all of which came from Toys R Us single blister packs.i think i have a Malcom Subban with no name showing at all,just the foil Young Guns.

so i'll add that McDavid to my ever growing list of why having modern day cards graded is complete utter nonsense.

I've seen a few of this years YG's with that happening. I'd never pay a premium for an error anyway, still don't know why anyone else would either. Maybe back in the 90's it had some sort of a purpose, but that trend isn't around anymore.

I have 3 Emile Poirier Yg's

1 has foil fully covering the name.

1 has foil half covering the name/

1 is normal.

No price difference on any just the ocd in me told me to buy them all.

Easy they grade things based on how much money you spend with them not how your cards actually look. With all the stories of people cracking 8.5's or 9's and having them re-graded at 9.5 or 10 i dont know how anyone takes grading seriously.

Beckett grades the PHYSICAL condition of the card, the printing error does not alter the condition of it

I'd have to say their 4 grading criteria are Centering, Edges, Corners and Surface. That error doesn't seem to fit into the scope of their grading. I'm not saying it shouldn't, just that it doesn't appear to.

Shouldn't it fall under surface? If there was foil peeling off, that's where it would hit the grade, wouldn't it?

Yeah, but there's nothing wrong with the surface, just that the placement of the foil was off. The card was graded 9.5 because of the grade of the 4 criteria. The error itself is a printing error and nothing more than that. It certainly isn't a "million dollar card".

The OP didn't mention anything about the foil peeling off, just the overlap. So without foil peeling, I'd think the 9.5 to be right based off of what they grade on.

Not trolling, I'm genuinely curious because I don't deal in graded cards. What if the card had no foil? Does that affect the surface grade? I'm trying to establish in my mind what exactly constitutes the 'surface'.
