Hello all,

Before this show-and-tell, I just wanted to ask everyone to keep those affected by the flooding in Fort McMurray in mind. I was luckily unaffected by the rising river but many of those who I work with were not so fortunate. Lots of hardship in this town over the past few years but hopefully the future brings better times ahead.

The following cards are pickups from the months of April. The mail is pretty backed up here, not only due to the pandemic but also due to the aforementioned flooding. Next month's thread will probably feature many additions meant for this month's edition.

As many are aware, I'm chasing very limited sets that are now 14 years old, so it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The aide I've received from the different forums and facebook group members in finding these cards has been superb, so thank you to everyone who has provided information leading to a purchase. Now onto the 14 purchases of the month!

#14. 2005-06 UD Victory Gold Sean Burke (7/100)

A big thank you to Kieran from the forum who helped me acquire this card. Its still weird to think that Burke had a stint in a Lightning uniform but that did happen. Great card of an even better goaltender!

#13. 2005-06 UD McDonald's Unopened Packs (13)

I was lucky enough to find a nice lot of 13 unopened packs from the McDonald's 05-06 release which features the Crosby RC. While I'm usually weary of buying loose packs, this is the only way to obtain these. I can't remember if the jersey, autographs or patches were through redemption or if they were inserted into packs. If anyone knows the answer to this please let me know!

#12. 2005-06 UD Shooting Stars Jersey Iginla (3-colours)

The only 3-colour version of this card I have seen to date, very happy to add it to my Upper Deck fold.

#11. 2005-06 The Cup Tollefsen RC (4-colour) 52/199

A very eye catching patch piece featured on a rookie card of a generally forgotten Norwegian, I love adding these patches whenever the price and piece suit my budget.

#10. 2005-06 The Cup Wozniewski RC (3-colour) 17/199

A sharp 3-colour Leafs patch from the "M" in their old "TML" shoulder patch. Its great when I can pinpoint the location of the patch on the jersey, its always a welcome and nice touch. The location can be viewed in the red outlined window below.

#9. 2005-06 The Cup Tallackson RC (3-colour) 188/199

A nice 3-colour version of Barry Tallackson's cup rookie, the patch comes from the bottom portion of the Devil's tail which has been flipped upside down when inserting the patch on the card. The location can be viewed in the yellow window on the logo below.

#8. 2005-06 The Cup Slater RC (5-colour) 131/199

This patch is an incredible 5-colour piece, featuring 3 different shades of blue along with gold and maroon. Patches from the old Thrashers jerseys tend to have great colour-filled patches and this is no exception. The piece comes from the shoulder patch which can be viewed below.

#7. 2005-06 The Cup Patzold RC (5-colour) 47/199

The nicest patch from my cup rookie lot, the Patzold patch features the broken pieces from the sharks bite into the stick and I've pinpointed the location in the window below. Crazy patch for this German netminder.

#6. 2005-06 Unopened Upper Deck MVP Hobby Box

Not an easy or cheap find these days with the rise of Ovechkin rookie prices, I managed to win this box for a fair price. While I don't plan on opening it anytime soon, you never know with how long this pandemeic is predicted to last.

#5. 2005-06 UD High Glossy Langkow #274 (3/10)

The first HG to appear on the show-and-tell, this series 2 addition was the first and only Langkow HG I have managed to track down to date. I'm glad to cross it off the wantlist :)

#4. 2005-06 UD High Glossy Havelid #12 (7/10)

This Havelid HG proves that it never hurts to ask a seller to check their inventory. The same seller which had listed the Langkow HG card had listed a few other cards from the set, though I didn't need anymore of those posted. I did however notice what appeared to be an unlisted Atlanta Thrashers HG in the background of one of his other listings. I figured I'd ask and it turned out to be the Havelid! Morale of the story, it never hurts to ask haha

#3. 2005-06 UD High Glossy Gonchar #401 (5/10)

Another unlisted HG, this Gonchar was found and purchased with the next card on this count down. It seems with the lockdown and abundance of spare time on the hands of collectors across the country, gems like these HG cards are finally coming to light which were previously forgotten or lost among the inventory. The golden trim of this hg issue really works well with the Penguins colour scheme of the era!

#2. 2005-06 UD High Glossy Kostitsyn RC #482 (4/10)

The only High Gloss rookie on this countdown, it was purchased along with the aforementioned Gonchar. Its becoming increasingly rare to find rookies that I am missing for the set, so its thrilling whenever I have the opportunity. The four new HG additions bring my set total to 198/487 or roughly 41% completion. Only 2 away from the 200 mark!

#1. 2005-06 Unopened UD Victory Box

This unopened issue has been on my wantlist for a while. It doesn't feature any big rookies but my reason for wanting one is the rarity and the chance at some rare black parallels. Given the affordability of these boxes over the years, finding unopened product has been become more expensive and limited. I believe there is also the false hope of finding a Crosby or Ovechkin rookie that has driven up the price. Very happy to add this to my growing collection of unopened 2005-06 hockey product.

Well if you have made it this far, thank you for the time and please do not hesitate to contact me with information on cards I need or those you are looking to sell. Looking forward to what June will bring, comments/feedback are welcome and stay safe everyone!

Hope for better time for the Fort Mac folks.

As for the pickups they are very cool. I love the unopened packs and boxes. As for the McDonalds packs I believe by that year they were inserted as redemptions to try to curb the pack searching that was happening by staff members. I was a manager at one for years and we had to start locking them in a register.

Might be an unpopular opinion but those Thrashers Jerseys gave some of the nicest patches. Thanks for the great show and all the best to all in Fort Mac.

Neat a Victory box is #1. I bought like four of those around release and they were like $30 or something. Didn’t hit anything of note, nothing numbered. I really liked 05-06 and 06-07 Victory.

Very nice additions! 2005-06 also on of my favourite card collecting years. Every set I think was really well done. I personally still pick up random 05-06 cards, reminds me of simpler times. I'm also working on a few The cup projects from that year as well. And you're right, stuff doesn't pop up very often.

Good luck and stay patient.

And all the best to all the people over in Fort McMurray.

Lu

I thought you were going to do a countdown but you showed the best card first

:D

I'm sure the other 13 were fine too
