I am such a logical buyer it hurts my collection sometimes. However recently I semi made a hasty emotional call and hit a BIN on an item. It wasnt alot, just $24 including shipping. I figured as an estimate it was just an ok price. (I knew it wasnt a great price.)

Any who fast forward almost a week and the same card sold just recently for about $10 with shipping at auction.

I am a little bummed about having paid double the price. I suppose though it helps me to lean back to being a logical buyer.

We all have a steal and a deal once in awhile, and I know its worth to us what we are willing to pay. But seriouly have you ever had a super, over the top emotional purchase where price was ignored?
 
As a set builder I struggle as I have 6 sets on the go. When a SP appears you need to be ready to pounce as these sets are a decade old with many builders. So at times I pay whatever it takes. Not the best way to spend my cash.

In trying real hard to be logical. It's actually making things a bit more fun to finally hunt out some deals.
 
I try to be logical, but tend to be emotional and blink first where 1/1s are concerned. I've made a couple of purchases at prices that I regret, but if I hadn't, I wouldn't have the cards, so...
 
I went with balanced - there are some 1/1's that catch my eye, or sometimes I need the last card to complete a nameplate and reason goes out the door, but for run of the mill parallel cards even if it's say x/5 I try to remain disciplined and if the price doesn't work for me I'll wait for the next copy.
 
I consider myself a logical buyer, having said that if a card has been on my wantlist for a couple of years and 1 shows up, I do tend to overpay a little. Also I'm trying to complete 2 nameplates and if the letters that I need show up, I know I will overpay. Typically though, I set a price that I'm willing to pay for a card and stick with it. My Matt Johnson collection is a little different though since I try to get as many of his jersey/parallel cards as I can, I usually over pay for those
 
I mostly buy vintage OPC to fill sets or of Leafs and star players. I don't care about condition so most buys are cheaper so I would consider myself logical. Back when I heavily collected Felix Potvin and Wendle Clark I often overpaid for items esp the low numbered stuff. I have since moved on from that kind of collecting.
 
I don't collect alot anymore. living in the middle of Indiana there isnt alot of hockey around here. Making most of my buys from ebay. So when I see something I want I usually put a high bid on it.

I do have my limits though. I used to have a big Legwand collection. I never got his quad diamond RC. There is one on ebay for 150 or best offer. I have made a couple of offers but didn't get any responses.
 
I am definitely a logical collector. I set what I believe is a fair offer and if the offer is rejected, I just move on. My collections are nice but I try not to go outside what I believe is a fair value. I am so logical I factor in shipping cost into every purchase I make, typically any shipping I pass on even if the card sells for 99 cents. I once saw this seller from Las Vegas with a shipping price of $4 within the US, which was ridiculous for a common jersey card. I contacted the seller thinking it was a typo, but no they said that was the price for shipping within the US so I passed.

This is exactly how I feel about the hobby now.If a seller doesn't have 4 or 5 low end cards I need along with little to no cost combined shipping I don't waste my time or money. That being said if it is a card that's been on the wantlist for a long time logic goes out the window emotion kicks in and I'll pay through the nose
 
90% of the time logical, but every now and then a card comes available that I just have to have. These cards are few and far between but if its the right guy then I dont really limit myself all that much.
