I always am wondering what the accurate market price is for a card. Does everybody find that posting a card via auction is the only real way to find out the market value of a card? For instance, when you post a card for buy it now, how to you come to that price? Are you just guessing? Which method do you find gets you the most money?

Depends a lot on how long you are willing to hang on to it.

If you know the value and can wait for that one buyer, then you can set your BIN (maybe with best offer) and sit on it. If you want a quick turnaround starting at $1 gets people interested early. Sometimes if a card is selling regularly I will set the BIN a tiny bit above the last price and see if someone bites because they are eager or afraid to lose it... I don't think it happens often.

Jmo... love to hear what others think.

I'm not really sure there is a "accurate" price especially dealing on ebay. On some massed produced card you can get a accurate price but others not so much.

Some times you have to guess if's the card is a short print or low serial numbered and or has a crazy patch.

For more expensive cards I do buy it now/best offer and price a litter over ebay sold price
For cards I'm not sure if I really want to sell I do buy now/best offer
For cards I really don't care about I start at .99 for 5 to 7 day auction.

I just sold a Jake Guentzel Young Guns tonight for $45 at a best offer listing. The last 4 sold at auction for $25.00 (tonight) and 3 yesterday for $27.16, $25.52 and $26.52.

I just pulled the card in the middle of July so the value dropped since release day and after the Cup final. The bottom line was that I was going to sell for a high amount or wait until the season started and hope that he has a good start and relist but I don't have to now.

For me, basically eBay sold prices, or an average thereof determine what the market is demanding, and basically that's what I try to set my prices at. I believe most on HI strive to do basically the same. When it gets right down to it something's worth narrows down to actual sold prices.
