I think this is a bad move too...AV had a lot of talent in Vancouver and couldn't win a cup, poor playoff performances, and had trouble motivating players. Isn't that exactly the problem in NY? Just my two cents...

If AV underachieved from a coaching standpoint in the playoffs (which can certainly be debated and I am not going to defend the shortfalls that I saw) then who exactly is available as a coach that would fit these lofty service standards you have listed above?
AV won a couple Presidents Trophies, he went to the playoffs six out of seven years coaching (lost to the Cup Winners four of those years) and won his division six out of seven years.
Based on your statement there is clearly someone available that has a better track record - I am really wondering who that is.
