Average return on a case of the Cup

Hi, would like to know what is the average return on a case ( 6 tins) of The Cup.How did your ripping go ?

Post the best and worse.
 
I cannot give you exact numbers but from the 2 cases I ripped through I am satisfied with the results. Are you thinking of buying a case?

I have a case incomming, everybody ripping it says you have to try this once in a lifetime... But i am not sure im willing to take a 1000$ loss, i could flip the sealed case over here (Montreal) for a decent profit.I know i could just go out and buy 2000$ of Cup cards i really like, but busting thoose tins must be a trill.

Was looking for ballpark figures about how people where doing.
 
as a low earning fireman ive never been able to afford busting the cup. it seems to me though that if you dont hit big your not getting your money back. especially this years cup as singles seem to sell pretty cheap.
 
now that the bv's are out. lots of rcs book the same as hp rcs (what, the hell). i cant afford to do it but unless you get a big hit most of the ones ive seen probly get around the 1000-1400$
 
I bought two cases and one more tin and did very well - I would say that I made 20% over what I paid for the cases...however, I did pull a dual auto shield in one case and a Price rookie /99 in the other.

I am real happy with it though and would buy another case if I could talk the wife into it - they are fun to break and there isn't a better product on the market - in my opinion anyway. Plus I think that you are going to see the prices start moving up here in a month or so when we get closer to the start of the season - always seems to be pretty dead in August and early September as there is nothing going on to bring hockey to anyones mind.
 
I spent my case money on Cup singles and ended up with about double ($4,000) worth of stuff. Pretty easy decision in my books on which to do.
 
Early returns were much better than what you would get now.

my first case returned just over 80%, it was opened on the
day the product hit, and all went to ebay within the day.

the 2nd case was opened 2 weeks after product release, price
was $225 more than the first case and returned about 66%
of the cost.

hit a /99 in case 2, but it was tlusty.

case one had nothing out standing, but about 5 cards that
returned 100-250.

as stated by another, you would have to hit a major card
to pay for the case now.

it is always an easy decision to buy singles with the money because you are at least guarantee that you are going to get back what you spend, with a great chance of profiting later on when the season starts

but the thrill of cracking is sometimes too much to overcome, as IT IS the best hockey product of the year, i myself crack 2 tins for a really good price and got nothing to show for it, and with the cost of 2 tins, I am sure I can at least buy a nice Gagner Cup auto patch rc /99 and other nice pieces to "make up" the 2 tins

and with the secondary market price of some of these singles, i say buy singles

or just crack one or two like i did to cure the inch

PS. i only spent about a grand for the cards in my sig
 
I broke my first case, and had the most fun ever breaking a product.

Anyone can go out and just buy what they want, there's no adventure in that though. If you can afford to just open for the sake of opening, then do it. If you don't like it, then don't do it again.

To put this into persepective, Timber hit a 1/1 auto shield and the highest top tier rookie and ONLY made a 20% profit.

Think about that...

Busted 3 cases... they had these hits

CASE 1
Gagner /99 RC
Gretzky Auto

CASE 2
Dual Shields Lucic / Krejci
Crosby Auto

CASE 3
Toews /99 RC

So I probably was ahead in Cases 2 and 3 and even on Case 1
 
If what you make back on a case seriously affects whether or not you break, I'd say you should probably stay away. You might hit big and come out ahead, but the law of averages with any product says otherwise. If the thrill and fun of it isn't enough, spend it on singles.
 
Opening Cup case

Have opened 14 cases so far. Many cards numbered out of 10 or less. Quite a few 1/1's.
Lemieux/Sakic Shield 1/1
Lemieux base 1/1
Turk Broda Signature Swatch 2/2
Messier/Kurri/Fuhr /10
In general, I found I beat the odds and value out was greater than my costs.
Cases here in Edmonton area ran from 1850.00 - 2460.00
