Avs offer Roy head-coaching gig

It was only a matter of time, no big surprise. I guess the Avs fels he had enough experience after his stint in the QMJHL. Hope he's successful and brings his kid up to start some more goalie fights... :D

Uh he does... Memorial Cup winning coach...

Maybe I'm the only one, but I prefer my head coach to either be a guy with NHL or minor league experience. A Junior title is great and all, but coaching kids and coaching men are different beasts.

We'd run out of coaches pretty quick at that rate. The junior coaches need to get a crack at it and if you hit a home run like Florida did you are sitting pretty for awhile.

When you are coaching a rebuilding team, coaching kids is pretty much what you're doing.

Besides, would you hire Mike Keenan to coach? I sure wouldn't.

We'll see how this works out. I think he is still too emotional for the pro game, but he may be able to keep it in check. Goalies don't have the best track records as head coaches, either, but like I said, we'll see.

Jeeez. I thought the Avs hit close to bottom last season, now this.

I think if Roy is head coach, Sakic will retire while the team still has some respect. I suppose the Avs needed some drama, Roy will provide that.

The team can't do any worse than now, so I guess having Patty there is a good thing.

I'd rather him there than in Mtl!

I think that this is an awesome move by the Avs. Obviously only time will tell but we'll see.

Mike

I think this is a bad move by the Avs. There are a few signs pointing to him being a good manager, but, I think they might start out strong for him and then die down.

Should make it easier to get stuff signed though!

Did that link change? Now it says he denies getting an offer. I personally don't want to see him back, but that's me.

Somewhere in the front office maybe, but not behind the bench.

I can see the concern with him lacking experience for the job. And I'd agree that it would be better for him to start off coaching in the AHL or the like, but I doubt this would happen for someone with his status. The junior experience doesn't hurt, but we'll see how he reacts. Roy's a bit of a hot-head at times, so we'll see how he handles the vigors of NHL coaching.

Considering Lacroix's relationship with Roy this is not surprising. In Roy, Lacroix has a star to draw fans to watch a currently mediocre team, and he has a fall guy to protect his own tail if the Avs keep losing.....
Smart move for the Avs? Thats not clear...but it is clear this is a smart move for Pierre.....;)

But....it would appear Patrick is denying the whole thing.....
