BAP RC's: Which version is the true RC?

This was brought up on another site and I think is an interesting topic.

I consider the 08-09 Frolik /99 to be his true RC and his 07-08 Redemption version is just an insert, just like 04-05 SPA.

I thought this was the consensus among collectors but a member on the other site called UD to ask and UD said the exact OPPOSITE. That the 07-08 Frolik(for example) was the true RC and the 08-09 was just an insert. This doesn't really make sense though because if his true RC was one that appeared in an 07-08 set and that is the only RC of his in that years sets, then that would be his ONLY true RC meaning all of the so called "Rookie Cards" in this years set would be either XRC's or inserts.

UD has put redemptions in this years again so this will further confuse people and if they stick by the redemptions as the true RC's then isn't it fraud to give rooke cards to a lot of the players that had BAP redemptions in 07-08?

Do people really think UD is the authority on what makes a RC or not?

The rules have been defined by the hobby over the course of many years, and there's no way a redemption from last year's product is going to count as a true rookie card.

all of Frolik's RC cards are in 08-09 therefore the 07-08 is a XRC. your original line of thinking was right ... except for the part where you called UD for help.

I've said this before RC designation can be somewhat arbritrary and differs from Beckett, UD, Charlton Guide, etc. There is no card collecting bible with which we can refer to in order to determine what is an RC or not. There will always be lots of discussion in cases like this, and really no one is "right" and no one is "wrong". Honestly, I feel to each his/her own. If you consider it his RC, then albeit, if I don't, that's fine too. I personally put RC parallels (the exact same card version, except for a different hue and serial number) in RC Toploaders, and put RC P on the price sticker. So far no one has ever argued that the RC parallels aren't true RCs and I shouldn't be selling them as such. In my opinion that are just more limited version RC, but Beckett would disagree.

Neither is a TRUE RC in my opinion. The 07-08 is an XRC and the 08-09 is not his first card for that brand.

Despite UD and other online seller's attempts to widen the definition of what is a "true RC", the hobby community itself has a very clear definition as pointed out above.
It would seem the only people who are "confused" by the widely accepted current definition are merely trying to sell these other "non rc's" and thus get more money for their cards.
The hobby's definition, established over many years, accepts that there is a very clear definition of what is "right and wrong" in this case IMO. My two cents.....
