Beautiful Sets You Don't Like

Thought about this the other day.

I'm a big fan of stick/puck/old jersey cards and never seem to want to buy the 2000-01 SPx Dual Memorabilia cards simply because I'm just not a huge fan of the way they look so it got me to thinking:

What sets are (relatively) universally liked and thought to be well designed that you simply just don't have a "thing" for?

Panini type cards like "pen pals" and similar type auto cards with say your favorite player, and a player you don't collect. I.E. a Hopkins / MacKinnon won't hit my PC, even though I collect RNH

2012-13? Panini Classics. I love the retired player autograph sets and the number of signers Panini got for the set. I really don't like the way it looks though.

05-06 Cup auto rookie patches, I mean I wouldn't mind if someone gave me a Crosby RC so I could flip it and put the money towards a new car, but whereas a lot of people praise this 'iconic' set, I really am less than impressed by the look of these cards.

They are beautiful cards, and consistently one of the worst products UD makes. Wouldn't touch a pack of this stuff. Way too much junk / filler ,and only a few really big "hits" in the product.

I have to +1 this. Love the looks, hate fluff. And price this year especially. I went to check it out at the LCS the other day. $175 a box??? 8 packs??? No thanks.

It's iconic because it mimics the Stanley Cup trophy - silver background and "plate" screwed in with the names on it. But to each his own...

I believe this thread is basically asking for "unpopular oponions"? If so, I personally do not touch "Young Guns" RC's. The prices are staggering relative to the print run and, more important, the designs are extremely bland. Even the image choices are not as good as for the base set (partly due to fewer options). But I appreciate their importance to the hobby.

Ice has always been a case product. You wouldn't want to open it as loose boxes. Around 3-5 good boxes out of 16.

I've always opposed memorabilia cards made up of legendary material. It breaks my heart to see these objects destroyed, cut into tiny pieces, and then put into cards.

Everything that has more than one player on the same card. I just don't like them, simple as that. Of course, I'll have to get them if the player I collect is on them, but otherwise not my cup of tea.

I'm probably going to be burnt at the stake for saying this, but I have never liked any of the years of SP Authentic despite how a mass consensus seems to consistently praise the design. Sought after as they may be, I find their designs hyper-bland, boring and hardly justifying a purchase.
