I've had a little time on my hands lately so I figured I'd make a run at some of the trades and hardcovers sitting on my office bookshelf. In the last couple of weeks I have:

-finished off The Sword v1 tpb
-read Fear Agent v1 tpb
-finished Ultimate X-Men v4 hc
-read Ultimate X-Men v5 hc
-read Maximum Carnage tpb
-read Ultimate Spidey v2 tpb
-read Thundercats: Dogs of War tpb
-read Phoenix End Song tpb
-read Batman Hush v1 tpb
-read The Walking Dead book 1 hc

I actually read all of Walking Dead yesterday. It's good stuff.

What's up next?
-Batman Hush v2
-Batman Long Halloween
-Y the Last Man (I think I'm up to v4)
-more Fear Agent

And I'm now looking for book 2 (hc) of Walking Dead with more stuff on the way from your favorite auction site. As of now I have 4 more trades incoming with many more on the watchlist!

How did you find "The Sword"? I have been considering reading it.

I just finished "Y: The last Man" Vol 3 last night, it is a great series. I agree with "The Walking Dead", it is one of the best modern series out there. "Kick A$$" is also very good but really slow coming out.

It's not bad, so if you can find it cheap it's worth the read. It's a little fantasy (not Vallejo-style), a little family drama, a little mythology. I know v2 just came out, so it's on my list somewhere, though I'm not in any hurry.

I've liked all of Y so far. I have the first 4 or 5 issues of Kick ***, and it's a fun (and brutal) read. But I'm surprised how good Dead is--I had no idea b&w artwork could be so engaging. I used to read the superhero/GI Joe/Transformers stuff growing up, so Dead was a very welcome departure.

My list of trade wants is slowly growing, but some of the notable ones are From Hell and 100 Bullets. From Hell I decided to pick up after reading League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (waaaaay better than the movie), and I have yet to hear anything bad about 100, so I figured it's about time.

Are any of the Hellboy or BPRD books any good?

I plan to pick up all the trades of 100 and Preacher. Those are 2 series' I've always wanted to read. Bout time to just put in a little elbow grease and get em done!

I read all of the original Preacher issues, it is a cool comic, Ennis at his best. I plan on picking up a few of the Green Lantern related TP from the past 2 years. They have the big DC event about to happen (Blackest night) but I need to read Sinestro corp wars first and a few of the other GL TP before the new storyline starts. I am hearing great things about the series.

Preacher is one that has always been in the back of my mind, as has Constantine. Heck, I've never read any Sandman for that matter.

I'll admit that some of these titles are just intimidating to me. There is so much out there--main series, spin-offs, collections, supermega editions, etc--that I don't know where to start sometimes. I read yesterday to start Sandman on v8 (or was it 6?) since it's some short stories, and is easier to tell if you will like the style of writing.

Anyway, I read all of Umbrella Academy v1 last night. The artwork is great, story and characters a little quirky (the Eiffel Tower attacks the city in issue 1). I'll probably have to read it again to get everything, since there were a few pages where I thought "Hmm, that has to be important, right?".

Anymore ideas, I'd love to hear them. I picked up a couple of other things several months back at the behest of the lcs owner who said I'd love them--Scalped and The Boys. I had a hard time getting through Scalped, but I think it just started out slowly. It ended better but probably not enough for me to pick up v2. The Boys I just couldn't get into. I never finished v1.

I didn't like Sandman and certain Constaine stories are fantastic but not all of them. I usually try and stay mainstream, I am more of a Conan, Spiderman, Batman, Hex, DD, Usagi, Bone reader. I do stray to other titles but I usually stay fairly close to the books I love.

Have you ever tried Usagi YoJimbo or Bone? IMO these are two of the best series ever written. Its hard to beat the Usagi "Grasscutter" storyline. Even though its hard to find I also really liked the last 30 or so issues of Deadpool vol 1. Another great read is the Punisher 12 issue mini series done by Ennis. A few other of my favorite reads are DD "Born Again", Batman "Year one", Maus 1 & 2, "Punisher kills the marvel universe" The Authority Vol 1 and 2 (fantastic), Superman "Red Son".

I really reccomend reading The Boys again. Go in totally open to any idea and its a great read. I just re read the first year of them in the definitive The Boys and it was well wort it.

Ennis' recent war stories have been really good (3 issues x 3 titles) and the first two are both now out in TPB (but im sure the back issues would be cheaper). Good fun stuff with the usual does of Garths' darkness added in.

Also guys I reccomend grabbing the TPB's of Judge Dreadd Volumes (1-12) and Strontium Dog (1-5). Give a grounding to where Ennis and Esquerez started out and are priced well ($19.99 or so a book)

Anyone see im an Ennis fan?

No, not at all. Though doesn't that violate some English code of conduct, he being Irish and all...? I'm looking forward to "Herogasm" whenever that hits the shelves.

Regardless, Fear Agent is a magnificent read. So too is Powers - finally got v12.

Delving backwards, I recently tracked down and read "Avigon: Angels and Demons" - a nifty little one-off trade paperback. Well worth it. Not even tough to track down - stock item for most distributors.

You have mistaken me for an ENGLISHMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

Im 7/8ths Welsh and 1/8th German so I will claim Celtic roots and therfore happy to suport a fellow Celt in Ennis.

However I will forgive you and agree that Herogasm should be amazing!

Wait, I must be in an alternate universe--Q didn't mention Tank Girl?

I'm almost wrapped up with Fear Agent v2 and v1 of 100 Bullets came in the mail today.

I never got into Tank Girl. Allow me to explain a little:

I saw the movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hadn't read the books beforehand. Rather than read'em and end up annoyed, I elected to leave the hole in my library.

Now, have you read AKA Goldfish - an early Bendis work? Have you read Foglio's Buck Godot? Or Girl Genius? WELL WORTH THE READ.

Fear Agent v3
GI Joe: Snake Eyes Declassified
Decimation: Generation M
Decimation: X-Men - The Day After
X-Men: Phoenix Rising
House of M: Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine: Blood Debt

I also got 4 trades in the mail today. So much to read! And my buy list keeps growing--thanks, guys!

Since the last post I've read:

Ultimate Galactus Trilogy v1
Fear Agent v4
Hellboy v1 (much better than the movie, and a great style)
X-Men: Phoenix Warsong (not at all what I thought--who cares about the Stepford Cuckoos?)
100 Bullets v1

As well-regarded as 100 Bullets is, it took me until almost the end of the third issue in the volume to like it. I thought the whole series had to do with the gal who got out of jail, but it doesn't. It ended much better than it started.

And I should have planned ahead--I have no more Fear Agent to read, so I gotta go get more of that. And I'll definitely be getting more Hellboy.

Since last week I've read:
Batman: Hush v2
Wolverine: Blood and Sorrow
Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle
Batman: Haunted Knight
Arkham Asylum: Living Hell

Recently picked up the Deadpool: Secret Invasion trade. Funny as all hell. Also picked up a recently re-collected book penned by Ellis titled "RED". Not a bad little book, if simple and uncomplicated by the standards of his later work.

There's also Herogasm. One word: Herogastacular.

I am really enjoying Deadpool. I was really tempted to sell my Series one run because they are fetching big $$$, however I changed my mind.

Man, I'm kicking myself now. I was at HeroesCon yesterday and some booth had all trades for 35% off. Deadpool: Secret Invasion was one of the titles I picked up but ultimately passed on.

I would with the new series, thats why I sold them however the late issues from the first series are really tough to find. They have been climbing and been hot for a few years now. I don't see them dropping any time soon. The series is near impossible to complete, I have a few buddies that are still trying to and it is really hard to track down the last 30 issues + the annuals and 1-shots. The last 30 or so books are really good especially for 50-69.

Sell. You'll be able to buy them back in six months for far less.
