It's sounding a lot like it's going to be denied, if it hasn't been already.

I say good. He's only missed 20 games, that's nothing, 'wah, I didn't get to play in the world cup, wah I didn't get to play in the world championship, wah I didn't get to play in europe like a scab'

what do you say?

Totally agree. Some people say what he's gotten is too harsh, but I don't think so. And more importantly, I think they need to use him as an example to try and make the players think twice about garbage like this. Play smart, or cost yourself a career. It has to start somewhere.

Seeing as Bertuzzi is tied for my favourite player... this may be a little biast, but I think 20 more games (unless the NHL does not have a 05-06) is fair. If there is no 05-06 season he should be reinstated when the NHL resumes.

I'm on the side of waiting until Moore is ready to play. I agree with set suspension terms for heat of the moment incidents etc, but something so blatantly intentional that causes a serious injury the player should suffer as much as the player they hurt (if that means a career so be it), there's no place for this stuff in the game.

On a related note, I have to say the publicity from this suspension is actually good in my mind, it's put more focus on the need to better police the lunatics. Not sure how wide the news coverage is on a recent incident in my area, but in a semi-pro men's league game in Cornwall recently (I believe in the playoffs), some goon chased another player down the ice and then swung their stick at them like a baseball bat, it was totally absurd to watch, and all over the local sportscasts. The most amazing thing to me was the number of fans who were outraged by it, no place in our game, etc. etc. So that's the current view. About 10 years ago I was a minor hockey referee, and one of the players in a Bantam house league (non-competitive), actually took a very similar swing at a linesman, only difference he missed because the linesman ducked (read - swing aimed at head). If I remember correctly the kid got suspended for around 10 games and people thought that was severe. I thought it was nuts, and needless to say steered clear of working games he played in. Just seems we're finally getting some focus back on cleaning up the game and I like it.

i say suspend bertuzzi another 20 games when the nhl resumes,

the factu he didnt ply in the owrld cup, europe or the world shouldnt count.

also that incident in cornwall was just sick

I'll throw in with Ferrian and Mike. This kind of thuggery has to stop. Bertuzzi's not the only guilty party in the history of the NHL, but certainly the most flagrant example in recent history. Wanna eliminate this sorta cheap garbage? You're out as long as the player you injured is out. If it's a career-ender, you get a year's suspension automatically.

Raise the stakes. Make the consequences sufficiently dire to deter this behaviour. Moreover, this hits the players where they've clearly shown they're most sensitive - the wallet!

Personally, I find it hilarious that the NHLPA was at the meeting and likely fought to have Berts suspension lifted. Who cares about the other former union member at the PA now? No one... sad sad sad...

Personally, I don't think Bert's punishment has yet fit the crime. However, I find it extremely unfair that while he has been judged guilty, he still does not have a clear indication of sentencing. They need to make a decision and tell him how much longer he is out, even if it is to say "until Steve Moore can play again". Or another 25 regular season games - whatever - just spell it out and be done with the drama.
