so... today i got the email from Beckett stating that my graded order has shipped, so i take a lookit the 7 cards i sent in-

1988-89 Topps Brett Hull DP 9.0
1988-89 O-Pee-Chee Brendan Shanahan 8.5
2007-08 SP Authentic Sign of the Times Triples Ovechkin/Johnson/Kane 9.5
2005-06 SP Authentic Dion Phaneuf AU 9.5
1971-72 Topps Ken Dryden 6.5
1971-72 Topps Ken Dryden 7.0

not too bad! but here is the mystery to me-
2005-06 Upper Deck Alexander Ovechkin Card Restored

what the hell does that mean? it didn't receive a grade... i hope that BGS isn't implying that the card has been tampered with... that card has been in the same screw-down, untouched by human hands, since i pulled it from a pack back in '06. sonsa*****es... anyone know for sure what this means?

Seeing as how you said you pulled it, it MIGHT be that the card was miscut by UD or something along those lines. When you get the card back, it should have a map of the card showing where it was "restored". Should be interesting to see...

What it means is that Beckett Grading is a crock of **** that wouldn't know their *** from a hole in the ground.

Tell us how you really feel. HAHA.. I have never really been a fan of BGS, but it seems PSA is getting scarcer and scarcer to find in hockey.

is there recourse for this? i know that there is some sort of link on the BGS page about disputing a grade...

boy, am i glad i sent in the SOTT triple. just did it on a whim, whereas i have been wanting to get the other cards graded for quite some time now.

Nice grade on the trip. I'd say they might've had an input error because that "card restored" note sounds wonky...

methinks that i may need to contact someone once the card (and hopefully explanation) arrives.

If it was miscut it would show `altered`, but i havent made a submission in a while, maybe they changed it to `restored`

Is it possible the screwdown squashed it enough make it appear larger than an a normal cut? Like it was cut from a sheet? I'd call them asap and set them straight.

As I mentioned, it may have been something along those lines. My example may not have been a good one. I'm sure it'll be outlined when the OP gets his cards back.

here are the results

ok, got everything just a bit ago, decided to scan the Ovie and it's "map" of what is wrong with it... here is the sticker that they affixed to the back of the card saver (thankfully they didn't slab it)-

saying that the back upper left corner has been shaved... so i took an assumedly non-altered white cardback and butted it up against the edge... and magically, it mates up flat... hmm... small gap towards the bottom, tho... not too sure.

maybe if i send these scans in to BGS they may change their minds... doubtful, but we'll see...

i'm just pist that i paid $10 for them to look at my card and send it back with a sticker on the CS1...

Generally I might believe them but you say you pulled this card yourself??

I had a Kovalchuk YG once that I believe was trimmed. Either that or the card was miscut at UD. It was about 1/16 smaller than typical horizontally and vertically.

Take the card and match it up with another YG from 05-06. See if the dimensions are kosher.

i lined it up at my LCS with another card and it is a tad off. and yes, i pulled that card from a pack in 2006, and it has been in the same screw-down since then. i actually pulled 2 Ovies from 2 different boxes on the same day, and sold one immediately. looks like i sold the wrong one...:|
