Big Unit To The Yanks

Most likely a three year contract to a 42 year old with no cartilege in the knee that he throws off on every pitch..Brilliant!
Yeah, because that slowed him down last year...

No it didn't..but it would be naive to think at the age of 43 and 44 he will dominate like he did last year..he'll be great the first year but thats it in my opinion. Im sure you think the Yankees made a mistake since you said Vazquez is still a great pitcher even though the first year he had to deal with the high powered AL teams and DH his ERA Skyrocketed.

It's not completely ludicrous to think that's the possible. His mechanics are flawless, and his numbers last year at 40 stack up to any of his previous seasons with no evidence of decline.

Phil Niekro was still bringing it at 43, and this is a guy who was pitching 330+ innings a year in his late 30's. Other than age, I see no reason (performance, injury history, etc.) to suggest Unit can't get it done for three more years.

Not at all. The Yankees get the best pitcher in the majors, nothing wrong with that.

As for Vazquez, he had an all-star first half against those "high-powered AL teams." If you're willing to throw away a guy's career because he had a poor half season, you'd be giving up on pretty much every pitcher in the game. (Is Mark Mulder done because he absolutely bit after the break last year?)

Vazquez is more likely to repeat the success he had in 4 1/2 seasons than he is to repeat an awful 79-inning stretch for the duration of his career.

Not bad at all indeed. I think any team would like to have that as their staff.

Man,
jays are going to get killed this year.

19 games each against the sox and the yanks and the orioles.

:/
assuming we lose 10 to each, more likely 15, that's a big hole to get put in.

Quantrill, Stanton, Rodriguez, and Gordon aren't terrible, but they could certainly use some help in the bullpen.

How's the Yankees pitching doing now..I know its early but the bullpen woes continue and Johnson is showing why pitching in the NL is easier than the AL.
