Happy with the signing. Loving how Howson is locking up the core. He's done the following recently....

Rick Nash 8 year extension
Brassard 4 year extension
Dorsett 2 year extension
and now Vermette

Good player, WAY too much money

If he produces like he did last year with Umberger on his wing, I'm not worried about the cash. They are good for at least a point a game, and just think both will be together for the whole season.....man I am definately excited for hockey season this year (I always am but being a CBJ fan the outlook used to always be bleak)!

Let's Go Jackets.......

How will they keep Filatov, Voracek and Mason in a few years??? :(

By trading them to the Rangers for an overrated defenseman:)

Seriously though Tyutin is a decent NHLer.

3.75 mil per year for 5 years? Not bad, of course, I would rather have Zherdev and his recently acquired baggage for the price.

Maybe not overpriced, but I would rather have a scorer for the price.

CBJ is still well below the cap. They have room to grow as some of the other guys come up for contracts. Provided the team continues a level of success, the financial situation should improve as well.

I'll take Vermette over Zherdev and his selfish attitude and questionable work ethic any day.

First of all after getting to see and chat with Vermette, he is an awesome guy, to put this guys character in the perfect light....after a practice tons of people were getting stuff signed Vermette had just gotten to the team only a week or two before, a person was about 4 people back holding up a jersey to be signed and Vermette took the time to ask for the jersey so he could sign it, he loves Columbus and the fans and wanted to stay here.......as for Zherdev...he refused to learn the English language, he did nothing with his fellow players, he isolated himself from the team and fans, thus bringing this whole world is against him attitude.....and I am happy that the rangers took him and we got Fedor Tyutin in return, a good player for a headcase, I'll take it.

Well Modin and Torres are UFA after this season. I don't think both will be brought back so thats 5.5 cap space saved that they can use towards the young guys on a extension. When Filatov's contract is up, Chimera becomes a UFA. If they were shopping him this Summer, I can't see them re signing him. Only problem is Hejda and Umberger become UFA's in the same year aswell.

Once they start making money then I'm hoping the owners won't be cheap and will raise the team salary cap. Making the playoffs was HUGE for the team. They said season tickets sales has been strong this past Summer and all 4 major sponsors are back which they weren't expecting. They expected to lose money this off season but they haven't. I can see fans going to the game now compared to the past where there were alot of empty seats. Make it into the playoffs and the team will make money. Hopefully the owners will know that guys like Mason,Filatov, and Voracek are key players to the team and will open up there wallets.

*sucks that Mason and Voracek become RFA in 2011. Hopefully no offer sheets comes towards them

You worry too much. That's so far down the road.

Vermette is one of the best 2-way forwards in this league. He enjoyed some success in his brief stint in Columbus last year and has shown he is capable of 50+ points a season. Maybe a slight overpayment by 250K-500K but if Vermette can play at his best, then he's worth every penny

unproven is why he "only" got a 5 year deal... :D if he was proven he probably would have wanted a 12 year deal....

that's the problem with these professional athletes, and is always the case...career years in contract years, get the contract then skive off. its bloody ridiculous the way professional sports is handing out money right now. remember when making your pool picks, always take the player that is in the final year of a contract, it equals a career year and maximize points for you. this technique rarely fails for me...
