Blue Jays-Marlins Blockbuster Trade

if the Marlins as made up last year could not even get past the Nats or my Braves I do not think the reconstituted Jays will take down the Evil Empires and the Rays. That being said I am glad the Marlins are done for for a while and be glad you got rid of Escobar too. I was pissed at first when the Braves dealt him, now not so much. If Stanton wanted to just move over a team to the Braves I would not complain :)

the AL east will be a battle if this trade goes thru I know I will enjoy watching it :corn:

with Sox, Yanks, Rays, Jays, and O's all fighting

There's supposed to be a press conference at 9:30am (EST) I believe. Going to address the trade, the Melk Man signing as well as JP Arenciba tweets. He's been tossing out some weird ones all day.

I've also heard, not sure if it is official as of yet, but John Gibbons is the new manager.

He got a much better lineup now

Jays need some middle relief and a reliable closer. They have improved but there is still holes on the team that need to be addressed.

No offence to Jays fans - I would be pumped if I were you guys as well but, this trade is a complete joke and really shows who is running the ship in MLB.

It is truely sad that any major sports league would allow an owner to do what Loria has done over the years in Florida but this one pretty well takes the cake. He has screwed the players, the fans, the city and, in all reality, the entirety of MLB with the way he runs that team. Total embarassment.

The Marlins did get some good talent in return plus $4 million in cash, at least they got some return. As a fan it is sad to see your team break it down with a total rebuild mode. Lets hope they use the cash for the team.

Apparently this all happened when the jays inquired about Johnson. The marlins asked about the prospects and it blew up from there.

The $4mil is going from the Marlins to the Jays - so the Marlins lose an all star shortstop, an ace, a 200+ inning workhorse plus a couple pieces and $4mil and get back a couple second rate prospects.

There is no way you can tell me this is anywhere near equitable - I would be going bonkers if I cheered for the Marlins.

It's one thing to trade these guys - it's another to do it without shopping them around and then getting 10 cents on the dollar for your superstars.

When you're getting prospects and giving up contracts - money does go back. The better the prospects, the more money you send back - that's the way it works now.

And after they allowed Ramirez to go to LA, and then LA taking on the big contracts for spare parts to Boston, MLB didn't have much to stand on to kill the deal - it did wait several days to allow everyone to pillory Loria - even though he's made it clear he doesn't care what anyone says.

If there was a reason to pull the Marlins franchise from him like they did with the Dodgers and McCourt - this would've been it
