So last night, during the Sabres-Leafs game, a Sabres played (forget who) is skating through center ice with his head down. Phaneuf came over and hit him, making some contact with the body and some with the head. He stood him up, which is what he's supposed to do. There was no injury, and he didn't seem to target the head. Paneuf was given 2 minutes.
Now I'm no Leafs fan, but that is a total crap call. So, what was Phaneuf supposed to do? If he doesn't step up, the player will keep going. Phaneuf is not the fastest player ever, so part of his game is to be physical. However, if he attempts to check the player at all, he's bound to hit his head due to the player's body positioning.
So Phaneuf either had to get 2 minutes (really, he didn't even hit him that hard) or get screamed at by the coach for letting his man go by. What should a player like him do with the new rules?
