hits number 7 today

The 2-run shot to center by Giants slugger Barry Bonds in the bottom of the 4th inning was the 715th of his professional career. He passes Babe Ruth to move to 2nd on the all-time career home run list.

I'm in agreement here, not a big deal . He did it by juicing and whether it was against the MLB's rules or not, it carries a HUGE asterisk in my opinion. Same thing with Big Mac and breaking Maris' record, just not right.

I don't really care but did they stop the game for a few minutes or not? again not a big deal just kind of wondering!!! Hopefully Barry continues on this pace....Aaron record is safe if Barry keeps hitting them this slowly!!!

To quote the immortal Derrick Coleman..."whooop-dee-dam-doo"...Always wanted to say that! :) But honestly, is there any other record out there that will most likely be held in such low regard in the future? Too much doubt, too much probability that he did use supplements, too much ambiguity with how the league did or didn't help this by turning a blind eye. I've always felt that the establishment of MLB is infallible, but the moving parts that make it run (players, owners, mgmt, etc) continue to prove that they are not.

Well stated Sal. I also think that MLB looked the other way just to build up the game as it was dropping off. I was like everyone else when Mac and Sammy were dueling, now in hindsight it doesn't seem that great.

I agree unless someone like Albert Pujols breaks the mark, so far he has done it on hard work

LOL!! I saw that in the SportsLine update! No Legendary MoNuMENTAL 2 out duel with Clemens or Johnson or Glavine...He gets it off a real first tier guy:D that should make highlight reels til...oh, about...3,2,1... now!!

True I am far from a Bonds fan, I just think he is a hyprocrit
 
According to my calculations, he does indeed have the most homers for a lefthanded hitter. But I do add and subtract using my fingers and toes.

Hes in second place. We dont keep track on a nightly basis the person that is second in active games played behind Ripken, I think until he closes in on Aaron it should have only gotten a mention. Not a reality show on ESPN, or nightly at bats when he is up. I couldnt believe people were upset that baseball wasnt doing anything for this.
Maybe its me and I just dont get it.
 
Blame ESPN and the fans for the reality show. If no one was to watch it, it would not be on tv. Plain and simple.

Baseball didn't do a **** thing when he hit the homer. The fans at the stadium, gave him a standing ovation and he came out to 2 curtain calls.

As for this being history, again blame ESPN. Is it my fault they put what he does each and every game in the right hand corner? No. It's the fans who want to know, so ESPN provides it. Plain and simple.

I dont think a lot of people watched Bonds on Bonds. What I find funny is Espn ****s up to Bonds because he is approaching history after how he "treated" the media in the years past.

I dont think baseball should have done anything for this "milestone", he hit another HR and it happened to be 715 of his career.

Let me ask you this Dan, do you think he has done anything in his past that hundreds of other players have done--and did it intentionally. Or is he being treated unfairly
 
Although it is not the home run record I think it is a significant milestone regardless of whether you hate him or think he cheated. When someone gets 3000 hits or 500 homeruns they don't break any record, but we still recognize their nice accomplishment as a milestone, as we should recognize Barry's milestone.

Just my two cents, but I think it is a significant milestone and that has nothing to do with the fact that the Babe is in 2nd, if someone moves into second in strikeouts or hits I think that is a significant milestone and people should be talking about it and should want to watch it.
