I have noticed the steady progression from dual-sided cards to booklet cards.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in the trading card industry I believe Topps started this trend with Triple Threads baseball?

In hockey I seem to remember Upper Deck being the first with the UD Black 12 jersey cards? Yes? No?

Here is one of the most incredible combos you could have as far as a booklet card: (NOT MY CARD!)

I DO like the fact both players are displayed so you can see them at the same time. I DON'T like booklet cards though as I feel their structural integrity can be compromised at any time when you unfold them and have a possible tear/separation in the hinge. Also, display and storage can be an issues.

You can't store this conveniently in a "display mode" as you need to fold it up to make it uniform with other cards. On the flip side you can buy those holders where it is displayed permanently open but it just seems so large and cumbersome?

Anyway, just curious if any of you have them, like them, etc as it seems a lot of high end cards are going this route and Upper Deck seems to be producing more and more of these things in the Cup (Rookie Booklets, Monumental Patches, Dual Shields, Draft Boards/Patches, etc, etc, etc)?

Happy Tuesday!

I just love them, they are hard to display but they do make a collection pop out when displayed. Also love the fact that these cards have multiple players. The down side is finding a proper way to display them cause who likes keeping a card folded up ? I found a questionable way to display a "Sweeter by the Dozen" but hey no company makes proper cases for these. Here's my example on how I display mine:

and how I found a way to display:

I hate to say it but not a fan at all.

Too big and clumsy but on a positive note I do like the cards that do connect like a puzzle and putting that together to display as you wish. The 11-12 Donruss elite numbers were a great example.

Would love to see more of this concept on a larger scale and doing that for a display. Cup clashes(Leafs vs Habs 67 :) ) Starting lineups that connect through Jerseys or Artwork , Connect and frame if you wish.

I have a couple dominion eight booklets which you can get holders for and they look nice on my desk, anything bigger is too hard to display. As BTO pointed out the last few years black diamond has been making four jersey cards come together to make a logo and although I haven't made one, they look neat when done.

Not a fan, I think the max they should ever go in the Dual Shields front and back.

Anything more is outrageous and in honesty not really a card any more. I collect hockey cards and not booklets... same could be said about those hideous video cards.

Sooner or later they will have pop-up books too. =.=

I'm not so fond of them as they're currently deployed. As Trev said, Playbooks are the BEST.

I love them. I owned a dual auto MLB logo of Jose Bautista and Brett Lawrie for a while and I had it in one of Ultra Pro's booklet one touch magnetic cases. I didn't need to close the book to store it, it was kept open in the holder.

I have a Contenders Matchups booklet in my PC, and it's one of my favourite cards. I have it in one of the booklet one-touches on my desk, and it looks awesome.

I despises them!
I has never liked either booklets (especially that vertical one!), triplets or dual-sided auto or memorabilia cards.

They're extremely to displaying IMO.
What's the next new gimmick features like fourlets, fivlets, sixlets or oversized booklets???
But they're going to stay for sure because I'm in the minority of those who doesn't like them....

I loved them as soon as I saw my first one in Topps Triple Threads baseball. I still chase some of them. The only draw back is the fact you have to either buy one touches to protect them OR keep in snap cases. I dont like to handle my cards very often and that irks me. Lately I have sold off the ones I dont want to keep.. I mainly keep the HOFER baseball booklets out of baseball products. I have yet to keep a hockey booklet.. mind you if they make one for Wendel clark.. i will break the trend..

FYI - they do make a toploader for booklet cards that is fantastic. Soft sleeve on both ends (I tape them together on the back) and it slides in for perfect display and/or storage. Not for highend booklets but works well for the bulk of them that are out there.

Back on topic - I like some, I dislike others. I don't dislike the idea but it's not perfect either. Like every iteration of cards, some like it and some don't - but I am glad they are innovating and continuing to evolve.

I don't mind the vertical open booklets. I've got 3 from the last couple UFC sets.

I don't like the horizontal opening booklets (like that dual shield posted above.) Unfortunately, those are the only ones with one touch cases out. They're too long and take up too much space.

I can't even imagine the insanity of that 12 player booklet posted above.

My only issue straight up is the amount of space they take up. Topps re-enforces corners and joints enough for my satisfaction, so hinge tearing isn't much of a concern to me.

Does Ultra Pro make them? That would be more cost effective.. .. I better call my supplies guy.. he never told me that these existed and I have been asking him for years.. FOOTTAPPPP

I like hockey cards!! :)
I suppose I would be intrigued more if I collected books! :)
But I like going shopping with my girlfriends for shoes, makeup etc ,so everyone has their own things ;)
