Hey everyone! Well, I'm sure you've all heard Rene Bourque has now been traded to Montreal...thus making me wonder where to go with my Rene Bourque collection.

Here are the options and I would love to heard everyone's feedback that may have also gone thru this at a time!

1. Keep going with it!
2. Try to complete all his rookies and Flames cards
3. Call er' quits and perhaps start something new.

Here are the concerns of continuing:

1. Will his cards go up in price now that he's Hab? (Seems habs come at a premium)

2. Will the amount of collectors go way up (thus leading to number 1)

Possibly positives out of this?

1. Will his rookies/past year's cards increase in value a little bit now if he becomes a fan favorite in Montreal?

I have 88% of his non /1's and 13/1's.....Would be pretty hard to just call it quites, but if its going way up in price, my salary won't be able to stay a float between priorities!

Let's here that feedback!

Thanks everyone.

i went through this with Cloutier (im a die hard canucks fan) and it wasnt even a question for me, i stuck with it.

if you like bourque then stick with it, if not, then find something YOU enjoy.

i dont see bourques cards skyrocketing, it may increase a bit, but thats up to you if you want the card when that time comes.

to me a true player collector sticks with it, trades, free agency signings happen, you have to make sure you love the player before you player collect.

If you're traded to MTL, interest goes through the roof.
Sell, sell, sell... if you wanna make some money.
If not, keep, keep, keep.

Further to this, within the next 2-3 weeks i think rene bourque's hobby interest will peak. Better to make up your mind sooner rather than later.

You already own the majority of cards, I don't see the price increase. Being on the Habs does command a premium, but only with the new cards he has. Bourque cards won't suddenly double in value or cards produced now that he is a Hab so I won't worry too much.

Habs fan will collect him but mainly the stuff of him wearing a Habs jersey.

Cody, definitely stick with the collection.

Veteran players that aren't homegrown do not attract as much of a premium as you would think in the Montreal market. I recently sold on eBay a lot of 5 Mike Cammalleri autos - went for the opening bid price of $15. I don't know how much you're paying for your Bourque autos but if you can grab them for $3 a piece you're doing all right, IMO.

The only players in Montreal that attract significant interest are guys that are homegrown within the organization: Price, Subban, and soon on a larger scale Louis Leblanc. Even a promising guy like Pacioretty only attracts a medium level of attention. Plekanec has spent his entire career in Montreal and gets little hobby love.

People hype up the Montreal market, but it's only for select guys where the interest level runs deep.

And besides, it'll be 2012-13 products by the time they get Bourque as a full-fledged Habs player on cardboard anyways.

keep your flames Rene cards, i say option 2, try to go after the Flame cards you don't have yet.

are you a fan of the player or team? if the player, the question should be easy no matter what team he goes to. ive forgotton how many times o'sullivan has been traded or waived by now and even though he isnt likely to get too many more new cards (care to help me out dr. price? haha) i still follow what he is doing on a daily basis whether he is playing 4th line in phoenix or back in portland and i still search for his stuff like nothing changed trying to track down the last 3 non 1/1's or any 1/1 i can manage to find. just have to keep chugging along.

best of luck with the collection

Perfect Tim.

Guys like you are the true definition of a fan.

Thanks for you input everyone!

I'd still very much like to continue on with the collection. As I am a fan of the player (don't like what he did to get the suspensions thou. Even I will admit that was a bad move on his part), but non the less I am still a fan. I am an even bigger Flames and now Jets fan thou.

My only worry is if he starts getting cards with Price or Subban next year.....That would increase his card values basically 10x the amount. Only time will tell!

But for now, I will stay open for business as his stuff will all still be pictured in Flames for the remainder of the year! Plus, it would be pretty cool to see some new coloured patches and possible player combinations. Keeps things interesting!

Coloured patches with the Habs is pretty against the odds.

I think you should stick with it as mentioned above. Gagne is no his 3rd team in 3 years, and I am still chugging away the same as before, picking up his Flyers, Lightning, and Kings cards all the same.

Why did you start collecting Bourque? Was it, a) because he is your favourite player? Or b) because he was A player on your favourite team? If your answered yes to to a) keep at him. If you answered yes to b) dump him and start with someone else. If you answered yes to both, dump him and find a new favourite player on your team.

uugh... tough call. i went through this when the Blues traded BOTH Erik Johnson and Jay McClement to Colorado in THE SAME TRADE. so i lost my 2 favorite hometeam players in one fell swoop... the only saving grace what i already collected Shattenkirk in moderation, so that helped a little bit. i stopped picking up EJ and McC stuff except in moderation (EJ was Ultimate Debut Threads patches, McC was SPx jerseys with multi-colored swatches). these guys were my favorite Blues players, i loved what they did while they were here, but once they were off the team, they pretty much fell off my "have to have it" radar.

Cody,

Stick with it, you have gone this far. No reason to change, he is still the same player you liked in Calgary. Heck, I liked Pavelec in Atlanta and I kept collecting him when he moved to Winnipeg. OK, bad example. LOL. But I did follow Hasek for years. Trust me, it hurt to put on a Senators hat !!!! But honestly, I would keep on it.
