Box Breaks on eBay removed 5 hours before closing!?!

You have got to be kidding me!!!
I'm not sure if anybody participates in box breaks on eBay, I myself do and actually listed some of my own.

I've successfully ran over a dozen boxes and just had 2 teams (Edm and Bos) pulled from my current box I have ending right now!

The messages states:

Unfortunately, we had to remove your listing because of the following:

We reviewed your listing and found to be incompliant with our guidelines based on the proofs that we have when reviewed it. In the description you clearly stated "Winning bidder of this item will receive every Edmonton Oilers card pulled from the box.
- The box was purchased from very reputable dealer (www.dacardworld.com) and I will film the break on youtube.com

The flip side is when a buyer pays and the seller takes his sweet *** time to actually do the break. I think I'm done even trying them out at this rate.

Good luck with your stuff man. I've seen a lot of other people have successful breaks. Some ebay douche just caught your auction and chose the two priciest teams to shut down.

Technically Ebay is right, you cant sell "raffles" or whatever on their site. I'm surprised they didnt take down your entire team list though, only two. Maybe try advertising your box breaks through a youtube or blog channel. That might be more effective.

I just find it annoying, and it has to be somebody doing it to screw me (perhaps another seller). I understand some people do them poorly but my feedback is FLAWLESS with breaks user id devilhockey3 (feel free to check it out). I'm extremely frustrated right now

Sure another seller might have been screwing you around, but breaking the rules is breaking the rules. The rule's been around for almost, if not more than 10 years. The idea of raffles on eBay were pursued very heavily around 2004, 2005 and 2006-ish, when they had to start focusing more on seller fraud, feedback extortion and shill bidding. Now that they've obviously fixed all of those ( :roll: ) ... back to basics I guess. These types of things should never have been allowed on eBay, and quite honestly, I'm surprised they went on as long as they did. That's why you don't see as many mystery lot auctions as you did before.

Valid point, but 'ultimate box break' yields 500+ results! If they want to do away with these do away with all of them.

The part that just bothers me the most is I feel like it's been a very positive experience. I got to enjoy breaking packs I normally wouldn't be able to afford, and I've made quite a few customers very happy. O well, fun while it lasted I guess.. Sorry for ranting

I only recently started to bid on these, my first one was yours last week! (Actually won an Ultimate Bobby Ryan auto) GL on resolving the issue. Bite the bullet and claim the Bruins and Oilers yourself and hope for the best I guess

I think someone intentionally reported you as you are competition to them. If EBAY won't enforce the same rules for everyone, force their hand. Report EBAY to the California Gambling Control Commission and The California Attorney General's Office. Maybe if people start reporting EBAY for not enforcing "state law" as they say, then maybe they will get their hand slapped and have the Gambling Commission or Attorney General start investigating their business practices a little harder, especially with their "double dipping" fees with Paypal.

I know others bust boxes, and I can care less, I would never report my 'competition'. Think about it, if somebody reported me, the logical thing would be for me to retaliate and report others. So one person trying to eliminate competition may in fact end his own box breaking.

I just don't see the harm it causes, not one person has complained. Even those who didn't hit any cards think it's done well.

Or just say if you don't get a hit for your team, you get FREE whole base cards...it may waste money to ship but eBay has no reason to close it down, I believe this is how some people avoid it because everyone gets something..

Example:
Seller opens and records an unbelievable box.

Does not post the video.

Seller then opens the remainder of the boxes for the average hits and sends out those videos and cards.

I'm tell ya, I bet it happens.

These breaks are just a better way of screwing over ebay members/collectors who just don't get it.

Basically you (not the op) are selling a 90.00 pack and receiving up to double that in price where cards may not be sent out.

Look at this member 32.00 for what? A chance to win an Edmonton card.

If it can be done ethically, then give them their own ebay category... I'm tired of typing in something like "Topps Black Ubaldo" and having to weed through 200 box break listings to find what I'm looking for.

This. Even if the seller only averages $5-$7/spot(some spots like minny or florida average $2.50-$3 whereas teams like mtl, boston, detroit, washingon average $10-$15 and as you posted, edmonton at $32), that's $60-$120 profit on that ONE pack of ultimate. It's almost like quibids, yeah $3 may not seem like a lot for columbus, especially if you get a rick nash patch or auto, but when you add up the total cost that everyone paid for the box and realize it wound up being around $200 you just shake your head...

And that's why it was shut down - you paid for the chance to win something and didn't. I bet it was another purchaser of a box break who alerted eBay of the situation, not another seller, who likely missed out on some cards and complained. It's a raffle really, which goes against eBay rules. Not surprised, and actually glad, they are shutting these listings down.

I actually think ebay is right.You are running a raffle.People are paying for something and not getting nothing as they are taking a chance.And ebay does not allow raffels.But like another posted if you were to give something to everyone like the base then your not doing a raffle because everyone walks away with something.
