Box Breaks on ebay

two questions

1) has anyone ever won one of these and did you get anything?

2) how do ebay rules permit this? The sellers say they are selling a link to a video and the cards are a bonus. What a crock.

How the sellers are able to get away with it, is beyond me. eBay should have ended it as soon as it started.


I have never taken part in one - but I think most people that have done will tell you that they get their cards as expected. Looking for a seller with 1000s of feedbacks, instead of a guy that started doing this last week - that's probably key.


Have heard a few stories of cards getting "lost in the mail". You get (for example) the Kings.... get a huge Gretzky hit (something worth $500, when only paying $20 +s/h for the break) and when the package never shows up, the seller then refunds that $20 you spent (which is all they have to do, to keep paypal & eBay happy).

Ebay was ending them like last year lol, not sure what happened. They should end them all, first off it's a pain in the *** thumbing through pages of "team box breaks" and what not, and you're basically selling a mystery box on ebay..which shouldn't be allowed at all.

I've participated in a few of these from eBay and never had an issue. Just don't get involved in ones run by kids who cant even go to the post office without permission from their parents.

got many autos and patches in various breaks for around 2-3$

I've been apart of many and am actually doing my own.

Definitely lost a fair bit of money with the giveaways, fees and other costs not including time. But I do really enjoy it so money is not a concern.

I have done a few myself. Never had any issues and always received the cards, a few bigger hits too. Like everyone else said stick with users who have lots of feedback.

I participate in these frequently. Another piece of advice, besides choosing a reputable seller, is to make sure they include the box's serial number in the description. That way, you will know exactly which box is opened and they don't pull some kind of switcheroo on you.

I've run about 25-30 box breaks on eBay and never once received a complaint. I have just shy of 1,000 positive feedback.

There's a few keys I've learned to make sure you can't be scammed.

When the auction ends I show that the last team ended, who won it, final price etc. As well as the current date and time (I use my smart phone). Also when breaking I say who won the card. For example if a nice Ryan Miller is pulled I'll say a hit for (enter member ID), not just the buffalo sabres.

And yes, entering the serial number in the description is a must! And obviously show the number when you break.

I've sent out some nice cards too, a couple Silhouettes from Crown won for like $3-$8, a LaFleur /25 from SPA for like $12?

eBay has since cracked down on box breaks but it was fun when it lasted. The key is finding a trustworthy seller, it's a shame some people can ruin it.

I buy in to these on Ebay almost every week. It is a fun way to hit a solid card at a reasonable price. I like the draft or random style the best. I have ALWAYS received my cards and have hit plenty of valuable cards. One of our members BREAKAWAY sportscards does them all the time and you can't find a better run break. I know there are probably more HI memebers who do them but I have had very good luck with Matt from Breakaway.
