Brandon Yip Claims off waivers by...

low risk/possible high reward...we'll take it. plus he played at BU with Colin Wilson and word is he and Shea Weber are also very good friends. definately not the top6 forward the Preds have been searching for however.

The price is right though (725 cap hit) ...and he's a UFA at season's end, so like you said, very low risk.

Why was he even on waivers in the first place?

He's been a healthy scratch most of the season - no points in 10 games.

I believe Shane O'Brien's return may have put the Avs over the cap as well.

Spoke to a buddy of mine who is a diehard Avs fan, and he didn't seem to care. Judging by the fact that there's been little opposition in this thread by our resident Avs fans, I would assume they don't either.

I find this very hard to believe. Stastny is the only player on the Avs with a cap hit of more than 4M. Isn't half the team on rookie contracts? Isn't basically everyone else under 1.5M?

WE NEED A CAP EXPERT.

The Avs have $14.539M in cap space so they didn't need to put Yip on waivers. They probably just wanted to try and get him down to the minors and get him some game action, and if someone claimed him, they claimed him, which is what ended up happening.

some notable Avs contracts:
E Johnson-$3 mil
D Jones $2.5 m
S Varlamov $2.5 m
J Hedja $3.25 m
P Mueller $2.5 m
M Hedjuk $2.6 m

LOL, the Avs struggled to get to the cap floor. That's how we knew Landeskog was starting the season here. His bonus was the only way we'd make it.

Anyway, sad to see Yip go, but he just wasn't the same after his rookie year. He was adding nothing to the team this year. Literally, 0 points in 10 games. Hopefully he'll get to play some more there.

Ooooo I just love these Yip Threads... I posted one on another board.

I'm quite excited cause he actually gets to play now! Woot. However, he probably looks better in the Avs jersey.

Go Yip Go!

Yeah, can`t say I really care too much. Last year I would`ve been a bit upset but this year he`s mostly been a passenger with the team.

word is he is playing Saturday night. tough to say who gets bumped. if i had my guess, i'd say one of the rookies Gab Bourque or Craig Smith. i'm leaning toward Smith, who was red-hot early on, but has since cooled and has even found himself playing on the 4th line with the likes of Brian Mcgrattan. Bourque on the other hand has been pretty productive since his call up a month or so ago and fits in nicely on the Spaling-22 line.

my $.02

why do the preds need a top 6 forward? Sergei Kostitsyn seems to be doing enough as long as the team's GAA can remain below 1 :)

looks like the Preds benched Matt Halischuk for Yip Saturday night. not a bad debut. a couple of solid hits. can't wait to see what he can do once he gets it going and starts to gell w/linemates.
