Hello all. Hope everyone is well.

I’m doing a little experiment and am building a list of The Top 100 Cards From The Junk Wax Era.

There are some easy pickings….like the Eric Lindros Future Superstars #440 or the Score Martin Brodeur RC. But I’m trying to build a list of the cards that had the pulse of the hobby for a time in the 90’s and early 2000’s (like the Scott Gomez OPC Chrome from 98/99 or the Parkhurst XRC of Bill Guérin from 91/92).

Would love to get your help on this.

Doesn’t have to be a rookie card, doesn’t have to be a penny base card. Anything goes.

What are the iconic cards from the junk wax era (say 1989 until 2005) that we just couldn’t stop talking about and chasing?

Much thanks in advance.

1995-96 Pinnacle #134 Olaf Kolzig (the picture! He's eating a hotdog, with 'Olaf' written in mustard).

1994-95 Pinnacle #288 Sylvain Turgeon (Patrick Kane in the picture).

1990-91 Pro Set Paul Gillis Bloody Nose Card #246

1991-92 Pro Set CC2 The Mask, CC3 Pat Falloon (The Falloon was the bigger card at the time, The Mask probably the bigger one now. First real "insert set")

1991-92 Upper Deck Czech World Juniors #50 Paul Karyia

1990-91 OPC Red Army Sergie Fedorov #19R

Something Manon Reaume

When I first started collecting back in 91-92 Those Bobby Orr cards from score were pretty dang hot. Opened so much score, never got one though.

not individual cards but some sets that bring back memories
Donruss Elite Series /10,000, i hit the Lindros back in the day
Stadium Club First Day Issues
Z-Teams
Artist Proofs
Epix
Goalie Masks

These are all great suggestions. Much thanks!

I remember the name Stanislav Chistov but can't remember which of his cards was the most desirable back in the day. His name was on the minds of collectors for just a short cup of coffee back in the early 2000's.

Where you can find more of the 1991-92 Pro-Set #AU125 Patrick Roy AU/1000

I have never seen or know much about the following card.

1991-92 Pro Set #AU501 Kirk McLean AU /500

Makes me wonder if there are still ones sitting in unopened packs
Plus there were less printed too then the Roy

Chistov and Svitov too haha. I think you'd have to put their 02-03 UD Premier Collection RPAs /99 as their most desirable cards.

I still have a multicolored Chistov FWAP in my traders. The hype was huge on the Premier RPAs and FWAP that year, RPAs were a brand new thing. The Rookie Update dual autos were a big thing too, the Gretzky/Spezza was a major chase card.

A few more …

1992-93 Score Canadian Olympians #AU1 Maurice Richard AU/1250

1992-93 Score Canadian Olympians #AU2 Maurice Richard AU AP/10/(signed on the cardback,/hand serial numbered on back to 10)

1992-93 Upper Deck Gretzky Heroes #18 Wayne Gretzky CL AU/2800

1991-92 Upper Deck Brett Hull Heroes #9AU Brett Hull AU/2500
1992-93 Upper Deck Gretzky Heroes #18 Wayne Gretzky CL AU/2800

Adam Oates and Jeremy Roenick had autographs in older Fleer Ultra sets IIRC
Most of the 92/93 UD World Junior cards were really big at the time - Daigle, Pronger, Gratton, Neidermayer, Kariya, Kozlov etc. UD's sorter had problems with those cards, so some packs would contain multiple Kariya rookies, etc.
The 91/92 Score Bobby Orr Inserts
90/91 Canada's Captains with the Eric Lindros cameo appearance
90/91 UD Pavel Bure, Sergei Fedorov (French especially)

The non-existent 91/92 Score Bobby Orr/Eric Lindros autographed Super Card
