You ever notice that bv traders are always trading cards that sell 7-10% BV but ALWAYS want your cards that sell 150-200 % BV.
" well they are both $30 what's the problem"

BV has its place but lets be reasonable
I think a new forum is in order." Traders with a grip on reality" or real value trading and perhaps a crack smokers fairy tale wishful thinking forum
 
Nothing was funnier than a month ago when someone wanted my auto shield (sell value $500+++) and offered a card that books $400 in beckett, but sells for $125. How could I trade a card at sell value for a card at trade value? We gotta be on the same page here. $500 cash for $125 cash makes no sense to me.
 
I no longer deal in terms of bv. I can't remember I even picked up a Beckett or a similar guide. I will look at cards in terms of average sales, and in most cases it doesn't matter to me (within reason). If it is a card I need or really want and the other party wants/needs stuff that I have no real attachment towards I will make the deal.

I hear you. I have been trying to trade and sell my 00-01 UD Heroes twig cards. But almost everyone wants them for BV. But most of them sell for 2-3x bv. And the bigger ones sell for high bv or more. I had someone offer me little to nothing for them at one point and he said I would be lucky to get that price for them. Well I have sold most of them off for what I was asking. So I do know what I'm talking about I think with this set.

I too will join the choir... I finally had to call BS when I was offered several $1-$2 SV YGs in a BV-for-BV swap for HOF and other autos which all had recent sales between 100-150% of BV. I was told something to the effect of 'I don't buy or sell on eBay, so I had no idea.' Right....

I will admit that i'm a book value trader. for me it's a guide. i understand that cards sell higher or lower for lots of reasons. if a player is hot ie: jonathan quick then i can expect that i will be trading for higher value. i do not use ebay nor do i care to.I will on occasion check ebay just so i am somewhat informed for those who prefer ebay pricing. so if i message someone about a card and they trade according to ebay then i don't mind using those values, but that is up to the trader to inform or give me some kind of rationale as to why he's asking what he is for a certain card.most times i side with the ebayer . i feel it's all relative in some aspects .

I use ebay for all my prices. But I don't like when a trader says the card sold for say 50 last month but they don't see that it was listed poorly and that I sold the same card 3 months back for say 100. There is so many people that list things poorly that people get screaming deals. And that's what most of the people I have dealt with lately try to get:|
 
well I find never be in a hurry to sell or trade your cards on this site or SCF for what you need. I have tried to deal with certain people on here and of course they will low ball you as much as they can. But in the end you WILL always find the right buyer or trader ;)

BV Means nothing to me anymore. It is an outdated guide. I normally go see ended ebay prices. Also make sure you look at the listing on what time of the day it sold for or see if they made any mistakes.

you know i think beckett is useless, i just bought a card of Cloutier that has a BV of 100 bucks, (yes there are 100.00 BV Cloutier cards lol) for 10 bucks...

i go by ebay prices. i know sellers get offended when i say "the last 3 cards on ebay sold between 30-40 dollars" so i offer 35 for the card. and i get alot of people getting upset with me because i use ebay as a guide, but to me that is the TRUE way to find the value of a card...
 
Some go bk and others use sales values,each one has it's place.Whatever method people agree on, the main thing is 'the fair deal' that both parties are happy with
 
I try to keep it as simple as I can.

I like mid to higher end cards and go by eBay sales.

When I open a box I will list all of my inserts/lower end game used/autos/rookies/etc. and will try to trade them at BV. Most of the time they will only sell for a buck or two so really if I can help someone who is doing the whole set I will trade all of my lower end cards for one nicer card.

mid to high end--->eBay
lower end--->BV
 
As someone who is still fairly new in the hobby, I find the bv do help somewhat but I'm quickly learning thy middle ground on the high and low ends of eBay sales are the best way to go
 
Only time I use a Beckett guide is after I bust wax at my LCS and want somewhat of an idea on the value of the stuff I just busted. Low ballers will always exist in the hobby and the best thing to do is just walk away. The sad thing about this is that a lot of the younger kids that only use Beckett are fully aware how to take advantage of people as well. I've seen it when I used to trade a lot and even in person at my LCS. Scary.
 
Other than low-end inserts or even low-end GU, Beckett is irrelevant. You might as well start a real pricing guide called Worthpoint Monthly.
 
I use ebay for most deals to see if it's fair, if i believe it's a fair trade and the BV's are off and you disagree it wouldn't bother me.
