Cammalleri suspended 1 game

i figured he'd get the 1 game no more and no less. just as a sort of slap on the wrists. and he definitely deserved the 1 game ban.

These slashes happen all the time, and there are never any suspensions. Lord, Boogaard speared Neil the other night and nothing....well not yet anyway.

Cammalleri's got a history of flying off the handle and doing irrational stuff when his temper boils over dating back to his days with the Kings (it's just obviously a bit more visible now.) It doesn't surprise me in the least that eventually, he was going to be suspended sooner or later for his actions.

i think cammalleri got carried away...just a tad. the spear to the upper body, skating off and then coming back for a bump, and then two handing. a 1 game was fair.

old time hockey!

As a side note, I hate the "no prior record" argument used. I'm just going to use Cammy as an example, not as the only case (I am well aware that Chris pronger is on my team).
Go back to the Havlat incident; if he had a prior record, he probably would have gotten a suspension. However, he didn't, so he got no suspension. So he still has no prior record.
Then this incident occurs; since he got nothing from the Havlat incident, he gets off with 1 game (not saying it should have been more/less, just a point) where as, had he gotten even 1 game for the Havlat incident, he probably would have gotten 3-4 since he'd have a prior record.

Obviously, from this point onward, he doesn't have a clean record, and that will be looked at should a future incident happen. And I totally agree that if a player keeps doing things that are endangering safety over and over that the penalty should increase. However, the NHL is also saying that if you get let off the hook without a suspension for previous questionable acts, you can get away with a pretty severe play and you'll be dealt with leniently.

All that is pretty true look at Crosby "fighting" Brett Mclean off the faceoff. If Pronger, Avery, Orr etc. did that it would have been a huge suspension. Crosby does it and they pat him on the back for "fighting".

Well, I'll be the "outsider" on this one..... He's not quite the biggest guy in the world yet he brings it each and every night - even in exhibition (there is no doubt he is on the starting roster). He gets run by a guy trying to make his respective team and takes exception to it (it was a "high" hit). Should he of just let it slide? Should the stars of the league just let the rookies and prospects run them?

No way. He's protecting his paycheck. I think the ref's got it right. They kicked him out.

Now the arguement can be made ofthe prospect - should he not run the star???? If that's the only way you can get noticed, chances are you're not making the big club anyway. For every action, there is a reaction - and often they hurt.

What's wrong with dropping the gloves? Or having Lapierre drop the gloves? Or have Lapierre do what Craig Berube did; go to their best player and say, "If your guy doesn't stop running at our players, it won't be him who pays, it will be you." There is never ever an excuse to use your stick like a weapon, whether it's to the face or legs or anywhere. I don't care if it's the Flyers, the Canadiens, or the Manitoba Moose, there is never a reason to do it.

Like I said, I'll be the outsider. I think the major and the game were enough.

I watched the game and didn't like the El Nino hit at all. It was behind the play and on Cammy blind side. The fact that Cammy is no more than 5'10 make it more lethal.

I won't defend Cammy. Their is no excuse to show your stick blade in the face of an opponent or hit a 18 years old kid behind the knee with a two hands swing.

What should have happend, there, is a Cammy teamate drop the gloves and correct El Nino. Habs dressed that nigh some young guys with more or less future. One should have step up. Cammy just didn't gave them the time.

As for a one game suspension... I stopped trying to figure out long time ago how suspension are given in the NHL...
