Canada Post Rates Increase On March 31st

I know we've discussed this previously, and I'm sure there is a thread on it somewhere, but I found out tonight that the new rates will be in effect March 31st. I tried to find out if tracked was increasing, but the postal lady got a few customers while we were chatting, so I'll ask next time I'm in. She did show me in their book what the new rates will be for a standard oversized letter, or in my case a 00 bubble mailer with 1-4 top loaded cards.

I have been paying $1.34 plus tax ($1.50) to mail a OO bubble mailer envelope within Canada with 1-4 cards for weight. It will be going up to $1.80 plus tax for the same service.

I have been paying $2.20 plus tax ($2.50) to mail the same OO bubble mailer with 1-4 cards to the USA. It will be going up $.75 cents ($2.95) plus tax on the 31st.

Looks like it's gonna be more difficult to sell online anymore, and if they ever decide that these bubble mailers are to be classed as parcels, will pretty much end online trading, and sales for the average guy.

Added Postage prices

It looks like Canada Post has added some additional price steps. I do not remember seeing steps for the following Canadian shipping:
Over 20g up to 50g $1.26
Over 300g up to 400g $3.50
There may be some different ones, I just can remember.

I received a card in the mail yesterday from Ontario. It was in a CD-size thin cardboard box. It only cost the seller 63 cents plus tax to mail it (because of the smaller dimensions). The card was well-protected as the cardboard is actually sturdier than a bubble envelope, and the card was wrapped inside the paper invoice.
This might be one way to keep the shipping costs down. Does anyone know where you can get the CD-size holders in bulk quantities?

So, has anyone noticed the price increase that was in effect on Monday? I had a few to mail on Monday, both to within Canada, and one to the USA, but my wife mailed them for me, so I don't know what they cost me to mail. However, I had another late one come in Monday afternoon, so I took it over to the post office, as they are open to 8pm, and here's what I experienced. This was one card in top loader in a OO bubble mailer within Canada. This is usually $1.51 tax included. With the increase, the same OO mailer with one card is now $2.03 tax included. I'll LYK when I mail one to the US how much it is now. Before the hike that same OO was $2.51. I heard it's up $.75 + tax, so we'll see what it is soon. It appears it will be more than $3.25 now.

Yes, the price increases are in effect.
With 13 per cent HST factored in, a 00 bubble mailer within Canada which cost me $1.50 before now costs $2.03. To the U.S. jumped from $2.50 to $3.33. I also mailed a bubble envelope to the Russian Federation. That was $4.92 before but cost me $6.67 yesterday.
No fun for anyone...

I was charged $4.30 yesterday to mail one top loaded card in a 00 bubble mailer to the USA. I'm not sure if this was an error, or if this particular post office is no longer classing these as over-sized letters any more, but I had to raise my shipping costs to cover myself. I didn't want to, but I can't afford to sell cards for low prices just to move them, and then take a hit on shipping, and supplies. It's getting harder, and harder to justify doing this anymore.

On top of all that, I got an email from ebay Canada tonight stating that there will no longer be any more of those unlimited, or high numbered free listings offered anymore, and that they will only be giving us 50 free fixed price listings, and 50 free auction style listings per month, so either you pay .30 cents a listing after the 50 free ones, or you pay $19.99 a month to open a store. Not worth it to me just so I can move $1-$2 cards. So once these 350 listings end in 28 days from now, they'll just get archived, and I'll have to pick, and choose what 50 I'm gonna list each month. Not sure how this is helping them at all, because they are absolutely not getting .30 X 300 from me to list these, nor are they gonna get any money from the 10% final value fees? I guess they figure people will just cave to their strong arming? Wrong!

These idiots are just like the cable company! They give you certain channels to watch, and after you get use to them, they tell you that some are no longer in your package, and that you have to pay extra now. Ebay isn't happy with the 10% they gouge us for, they want more, and won't stop until they get it all from you.

Offering free listings is a great way to get people to sell stuff they wouldn't normally sell, and take their 10%, and be happy, but no that's not enough? What they don't realize is that money I earn selling my stuff all goes back into buying other stuff on ebay, so they are really double dipping with me. With no sales coming in, or limited amounts, means no spending by me, so how is that good business sense for them? Yes, I'm a very small part in the grand scheme of things, but millions of little guys like us have to add up, don't you think? :|
