Can’t believe it’s been another 6 months of collecting already – this year certainly seems to have just flown by!
First things first – this mail post wouldn’t be possible without two members in particular: Ryan (JohnnyDrama) and Kristian (Mooche). Living in Hong Kong makes collecting near impossible. Shipping costs are as much as $7 dollars from either Canada or the US and many eBay sellers simply refuse to ship overseas. For those of you in Canada, Ryan offers a great shipping service to help members save money. I’ll leave his link here.
On to the show!
Miscellaneous Pickups
Just the one 1994-1995 Fleer Ultra Base Parallel this time. Still a long way from where I want to be, but slowly making some progress with this set. As long as they’re $10 or under, I’m picking up them up. COMC has been an absolute joy for this.

1994-95 Fleer Ultra Base Parallel Shane DOAN
Canucks
On to some more familiar territory, Canucks!
My Canucks collection is slowly finding some focus: hardsigned autographs only. These ones below fit nicely into my Linden, Future Watch and Cup Gold RPA Collections.
First up - an under appreciated set, Panini 12-13 Signature Classics. Slowly working my way through the team set:
2012-2013 Panini Signature Classics Base Auto Cloutier
This came courtesy of a eBay voucher that I had to use up. Figured I'd pick up this one and go for the set.
Next, a Linden.
2011-12 SP Authentic Sign of the Times Trevor LINDEN
I’m actually pretty behind on the SOTT Lindens and there’s a couple years that I’m still chasing.
Another one for the Future Watch collection here:
2012-13 SP Authentic FW Cody HODGSON
A shame that Hodgson has moved on to pastures new. This Hodgson is likely to be only one of two or three I ever pick up.
Another shoutout to K for both of these cards.
Getting into the business end of things here. The Cup came by with much of a bang this year and I got stuck into it straight away. These two fit nicely into the Cup Gold RPA collection. Hopefully, I will be able to upgrade both patches over the next 12 months. Both of these two cards come courtesy of Bill (BillinDallas) through eBay.
2013-14 The Cup Rainbow Rookie Niklas JENSEN /46
2007-08 The Cup Rainbow Rookie Jordan SCHROEDER /45
I’m looking forward to the Bo Horvat that is gonna pop out of this year’s The Cup! At least he’s wearing #53!
Corrado
Okay. If you've made it this far, you'll be glad to know that there is more. The Corrado collection sure has taken leaps in the past 6 months. No coincidence that the past little while coincided with a near 40-card release in Rookie Anthology alone. National Treasures and Prime also boosted the collection totals. While I wasn’t a big fan of Panini to start with it turns out that Upper Deck was pretty reluctant to release Corrado rookies.
Going to start with some new pickups, and move on to the Rainbows (yes, Rainbows!) later.
First up is a base parallel:
Totally Certified Emerald Parallel /5
Can’t beat a base parallel outta /5 for $9.99!
A slew of pickups that go into the ‘incomplete set’ category:
2013-2014 Crown Royale Silouhette Patch /25
2013-2014 Dominion Base Brand /3
2013-2014 Dominion Base Fight Strap /5
2013-2014 Dominion Mammoth Prime Jersey /25
2013-2014 Dominion Quad w/ Tanev, Hamhuis and Higgins /50
2013-2014 Dominion Prime Quad w/ Tanev, Hamhuis and Higgins /10
2013-2014 Prime Quad Prime w/ Tanev, Higgins and Schroeder /10
Wasn’t overly pleased that Corrado was put on these cards with Tanev – for those of you that don’t know, Tanev was only blessed with a handful of rookie cards and his collectors tend to go nuts on the lower numbered cards to make up for that vacuum.
I was more than happy to grab the two prime quads for what I did. The Dominion Brand card comes from a fellow member nars101 and is the only one I’ve seen so far. The Fight Strap cards have always been boring to me, but it must be done for the sake of the collection, haha. The Silouhette Patch comes from a good member of these boards, Derek (OT Sports)
2013-2014 Contenders Rookie Ticket
2013-2014 Contenders Rookie Ticket Patch Auto /100
The first part that is relevant to the odd thread title. The first Orca appearance. Those of you that spotted that the Contenders Ticket Patch features the ‘eye’ of the Orca pass the eye test.
Next up, a trio of Rookie Anthology:
2013-2014 Rookie Anthology Base/Base /249
2013-2014 Rookie Anthology Prime/Prime /50
2013-2014 Rookie Anthology Patch/Patch /25
Or in other words … boring, better, nice. Naturally, the only one missing from this set is the 1/1 Tag/Tag variation.
2013-2014 Titanium Rookie Gear Prime /50
2013-2014 Titanium Rookie Gear Patch /25
2013-2014 Titanium Rookie Gear Auto Jersey /100
2013-2014 Titanium Rookie Gear Auto Prime Jersey /25
2013-2014 Titanium Rookie Gear Auto Patch /15
I was pleased to pick up the Auto Patch locally in Hong Kong – it’s a rare happening – and the patch certainly is nice. I’m also very proud of the Rookie Gear Patch /25 – the colors on that are fantastic and the patch is particularly spectacular.
2013-2014 Contenders 3v3 Auto
2013-2014 Contenders 3v3 Auto Gold /20
2013-2014 Contenders 4v4 /10
These three cards are NICE. I’ve only scanned one side of the 3v3s, but there are three useless Oilers on the otherside that aren’t worth scanning
. I love the barrage of autographs released in the Contenders set and obviously the one I like the best is the 4v4. With eight players on the card that just leaves two spares for player collectors and I am very pleased to pick this up, especially with all the new Forsberg collectors! This important card came from a good friend, Blane (qwas).
This is the last little set for this part of the post. The last one is akin to the ITG Complete Jerseys and has a jersey, patch, fight strap and tag. A nice card, but I really wish Panini had added some color to the parallels. Guess beggers can’t be choosers.
Part two of the title –‘RAINBOWS’. We tend to throw this term around in the hobby to refer to a complete set of base and parallel releases. As you will see below though, not all rainbows are as colorful as others.
First up is the rainbow from BD. Hopefully most of you will forgive the gangscan. Things just look nice when you put them all together
2013-14 Black Diamond Base, Ruby /399, Emerald /25 and Sapphire /5
My first rainbow that was actually completed some time together. Nice to have these four together as I only know too well how hard rare Black Diamond cards to come by. Still haven’t seen another Sapphire yet.
The smallest of the ‘rainbows’
I was pretty disappointed that there was no Corrado Autograph in this release as I always look forward to the Future Watch Autographs and the Future watch Patches every year. I guess at least they gave him a base card and a parallel!
A commonly overlooked set every year is Score. The rainbow is as follows:
I love the unreleased print runs as it adds an element of speculating and suspense to our hobby. Very pleased to add the Black to the collection and it remains the only one I’ve seen so far as well!
2013-14 Hot Prospects Base /399, Red Hot /27 and White Hot /9
The scan on this one didn’t turn out nicely, but it’s still a nice little trio to have.
Another trio in this ‘rainbow’.
2013-2014 Panini Playbooks Breakout Jersey /199, Prime /25 and Patch /10
These three were a bit harder to put together due to the relatively low levels Playbook was opened at. The Patch came to me quite some time after the product was first released. I’m still looking for an upgrade on it too!
2013-2014 Dominion Rookies /199, Patch /25 and Emerald /5
Barely counting as a ‘rainbow’ but at least there is a spot of green on the Emerald. Another set I’m happy to put to bed!
2013-2014 Luxury Suite /99, /25 and Purple /1
VERY happy to have this rainbow. Luxury Suite was a huge set back when I first got into collecting (03-04) and I still remember the endless breaks on the boards 10 years ago. The /25 is barely three colors too. I am particularly happy to add the 1/1 to the collection. This one even came from a fellow boardie. Thanks JZ!
2013-14 Totally Certified Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Mirror Red, Mirror Blue, Mirror Gold and Mirror Green
As alluded to last time, the Mirror Green is a 1/1, making this a unique rainbow to have. Totally Certified is usually a pain in collector’s backside, but it made this year a heck of a lot more interesting for me. The last card to come to me in this set was actually the Mirror Red /25, rather than the Golds or the Greens. The parallels are nice when you put them all together!
The final part of the post – everyone’s favorite set of the last year, National Treasures.
2013-2014 National Treasures Gold Patch /26, Brand /5 and Button /3
I think I’m still missing two pieces from this Rainbow, but hopefully I pick them up soon.
Where’s the Regular RPA you ask? That’s here.
Another one I am very happy to have and I think most people would struggle to find a better patch! National Treasures has sure helped to make everyone’s collection a bit more colorful and I am grateful for this card, at least.
So that ends another half year of mailposts, but I'll probably be back soon as my COMC package is working it's way over to Hong Kong.
Stay tuned and thanks for looking folks!
