EDIT: Lost sheep found their way home!!!!


Cards came through ground mail eventhough they were sent via airmail.

I don't get it. You are in Finland, your trade partner is in Canada. I don't know the details of when the trade was made and when you finally received it but I am assuming that Canada Post flew it overseas and the local postal service took care of the rest, no? That means that Canada Post sent it airmail and the Finnish postal service was responsible from that point on.

I'm sorry! I'm just feeling very patriotic today!! :badmood:

I don't think that ground service is possible from Canada to Finland.

Sure it is. It's called surface mail and sent by boat

That's a possibility, but I do believe that that doesn't exist anymore except for large packages.

I am pretty sure that if you pay the standard $4.00 oversize International postage rate, they send it air.

IF you make sure to put airmail stickers on the package. If not, it goes in the surface mail bag. Trust me, I've had it happen to me
 
I send greeting cards to family in Hong Kong all the time with checks. I also send invoices to my clients in France and the UK as well as the US and have never ever applied an Air Mail sticker to an envelope only the regular international postage stamps. I have never had mail get 'lost' for an extended period of time. I would think 10-12 days max!

That's a regular enveloppe. This is not the same. A Bubble mailer becomes an oversized package. Trust me, I learned my lesson the hard way. When I asked the people at the post office why it took almost 2 months for someone to receive the package I had sent (in a regular bubble mailer), the first question they asked is if I had put the stickers on.
