Anyone think shows like the Expo in May and the National in August will be cancelled because of the Coronavirus?

yeah no one knows ATT but there are way bigger events

Canadain Open Tennis , Canadian Grand Pre just off the top of my head that's massive economic hits if cancelled

I could see the Expo potentially being cancelled in the near future if things stay the same. I was supposed to attend a music festival in Miami in two weeks, it has been cancelled. As weeks pass, it seems less and less likely I will be doing my yearly Europe trip in July as well.

We will see if I will be attending the Jays game at the end of June or not.

Crazy times right now.

I was looking forward to the women’s world hockey championships ... but were cancelled in Halifax.... due to Coronavirus... I think a lot of events will be canceled..

I wouldnt be shocked if it was, hopefully it's not tho. I did get an email from Westjet today tho stating they would be offering refunds on all flight already booked past March 31st for no charges or fees.

Will the Expo be cancelled? No.

Don’t let the media fear monger your opinion. This virus is not as bad as it’s made out to be. The common cold kills more yearly. Obesity kills more. Even SARS was worse and it was all over Toronto.

Facts are ONE person has died in Canada. A 80 year old man who was already having a week immune system. The number of cases are slowing down. China is returning back to normal.

Warmer weather is coming and in a month, you won’t hear about COVID-19.

So - having done the Expo for over twenty five years - it has never been cancelled and when SARS was the big scare about fifteen years ago - the show went on - and was quite well attended.
In my opinion it will not be canceled - and with warmer weather on the way, likely infections will greatly be reduced.
But - we may want to get an opinion from our resident Dr Quincy

Thanks for the nod, Steven.

It has never been canceled before, but that's not the same as saying it could never be canceled. I was highly skeptical as recently as this morning that Expo might be canceled...and then I saw that SXSW was canceled.

That's huge.

I remain skeptical that the Expo will get canceled. I am prepared to be wrong, and I am hoping that I'm not. Wait and see.

You can’t compare this to the SARS outbreak guys - yes Expo wasn’t cancelled that year, but health officials weren’t as prepared with their containment techniques or ideas.

That said, I hope it’s not, but I won’t be surprised if it is. I realize the chance of being infected is small, and the chance of dying even less... but the fact it’s a possibility for me or others I come in contact with? Why add to the risk?

If the choice is up to me, I’m going.

Cory

China is returning back to normal.... after essentially shutting down a city of 11 million people for 2 weeks. Fortunately in North America we're too brave to shut anything down

Everything will be done through the lens of assuming liability - if the promoter or the International Centre deem the risk to be too great of someone getting sick from being at the event - they will call it off. That is why you're seeing so many of these calls, it's about not wanting to be held liable for not taking enough precautions or allowing someone who may be sick but not exhibiting symptoms.

It sucks, but that may be the ultimate determinant of whether it goes ahead or not

Yeah, this whole thing is (In my non-expert option) being sensationalized, and over-hyped... but it is a real concern (and should be).

If you bought 37 packages of 24 rolls of toilet paper last week, I question your sanity. If you're going into hospitals and poaching boxes of masks... there is definitely something wrong with you.

Should you shut your life down over this, and cancel everything? I wouldn't. I was on a cruise last week (the cruise, BTW, inspected all passports before boarding, and I suspect would have turned away anyone who had recently been to China, South Korea, Iran, Italy, etc. They don't normally inspect them to that detail).

At this point though, I'm expecting that we'll see the #s in North America climb (exponentially). We're going to see things canceled (not specifically the expo, but maybe?) and the tanking our economy is going to do... this is 2008 (or worse) all over again. Can't wait to see how many billions are spent bailing out airline companies.

The Expo just announced Jaromir Jagr signing tickets and prices. Another sign its NOT being cancelled.

Yes that is too bad.

I would think the Venue would have too start cancelling any/all bookings the Summit Show, hockey tournaments etc.

That way he does not lose his deposit and can send out refunds for ones who has paid.

Frustrating waiting game for him waiting to find out if the Show is a Go or not.

I just heard from a vendor that he was contacted by the promoter of the Summit Show, saying that it's been cancelled due to you-know-what.

Bummer.

I spoke to Marcel today and the show is being postponed until late summer or early fall. He will be informing the public on social media by tomorrow afternoon.
