Cardboard Nostalgia's Pre-2005 Unique Patch Collection

So...That's where I Sold My Stillman…..Great Job

Its funny how small this hobby is sometimes. You're the second person in two days and the third in a week to recognize a card they used to own in this collection.

Keep me in mind if you find anything similar in the future.

A couple new arrivals:

A couple new ones arrived. It really is interesting how even a couple years difference makes in the hobby. In 2003 companies are cutting NHL shields in half and using them in cards #/400+ and after the lockout they're using them for 1/1s.

That Potvin is one of the nicest patches I've seen in a WHILE... and /5 too! Well done!

Edit- took a look at the 2000-01 Crown Royale checklist and it says the Potvin is /400 something. But it looks like this one has a bigger swatch and has WAY few copies

Your comment is definitely making me research the authenticity of this card more. I can’t find a single card in the set matching his style of large swatch.

Yeah I didn't think there were jumbo patch versions of those cards. The window looks very much like it was done with an exacto knife. But not sure how they would have gotten the window border that big altering a real card, same with the serial number. Is the gold foil real? If so, this is definitely a mystery!

Another collector confirmed that the seller told him it’s a custom card but the original listing didn’t say that. I jumped on it because of the price and obviously the swatch. Guess it’s time for a refund.

The real question, negative feedback?

If the seller issues a refund, I'd say neutral. It was not honest selling, but he will have made it right by refunding you.

Goodness, glad I spoke up. Was never trying to rain on a parade. Even I was deceived. After looking at the patch window it definitely looks like an someone used a knife to carve the swatch. Refund

That Potvin is definitely a custom. I've never seen or heard of a jumbo patch version from that set. Curious if you could upload an image of the back of it..... at first glance it is a very good custom, especially regarding the serial numbering print. A closer look at the swatch window shows how rough the cut was/is, which would not be the case from the factory.

Wow I can’t believe I didn’t look at that harder either. Good catch everyone. Sucks that they would customize that though

Edit:
So I did some digging.
The normal Potvin jersey has that same style of numbering but it’s out of /585
The patch variation pacific used to stamp all their cards with a gold foil “Patch Variation” with the numbering inside of it. The potivn patch is /144
