I agree. I thought he'd actually just get a warning, although I can't really argue with the suspension.

Not to harp too much on the inconsistencies of the NHL disciplinary process, but how did Carkner get a game while Weber got a small fine? Maybe I'm missing something.
 
If the Refs give Boyle the penalty after the whistle in Game 1 then this all would have been averted. They're policing themselves because the Refs don't. Being a Sens fan I'll take the game suspension if it means that Rangers think twice about going after the Sens. Not a smart move by Boyle. He's messed with Charma and now the Sens are even that much more hungry.

There may have been a degree of premeditation in Carkner's case whereas in Weber's case he was reacting to a slash.
 
Carkner getting a single game is the worst disciplinary decision since Carl Hagelin got 3 games :D

Honestly, I'd have shown Carkner the gate for the series. I've got little time for dirty play as it is, but what he did, to me is just as bad as if he were to stomp on Boyle's leg with his skate, or slash him in the head in retaliation.

what carkner did is what hockey used to be like before bettman came in the league. You mess with a teams star player, you face the policeman.And it was all settled on the ice, where no review or hearing wouldve taken place

Rangers game plan for game one was attack Karlsson, Boyle threw what 10 fast punches to karlssons head and thats okay?
Carkner just went to talk to boyle and boyle basically turtled.
All it was, was Mclean reacting to Fonzies antics in game 1

Seriously doesnt torterella look like fonzie lol, I can picture him yelling at the refs standing and saying EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh or smashing his hand against the board and having the music play

I should've been clearer in my first post. I was absolutely fine with the first punch Frank. Carkner "talked" back with the first punch. But...when somebody's clearly taken no interest in fighting back (or perhaps has a glass chin like Boyle does,) hitting a guy while he's down repeatedly just isn't cool. If Boyle wanted to be a coward about the whole situation, then that's his prerogative. I have no doubt he'd be a continued target for physical play throughout the series. As it is, Carkner crossed a line IMO, and I don't think that style of play should ever be let go without severe punishment, let alone a single game.

I see both sides of this, and while Carkner did go over the line, I would much rather see that then what Asham or Keith did as retaliation. Boyle knew what was coming, he covered up and he was not hurt. Carkner looked him in the eye, told him payback was coming, and laid it on him. Again, Boyle was not hurt other then maybe his pride. He was targetted again 5 minutes later for not standing up and defending himself, he dropped the gloves and fought Neil like a man. After that no one else said a word to him or went after him, it was done. Some poeple may not agree with it, but if the Sens did not take that approach Boyle may have continued to take liberties with the Sens star players, or worse, maybe Neil takes out Gaborik with a flying elbow. It may have looked thug style but in my opinion, I would much rather see a player do what Carkner did then an elbow or stick to the head/face. Let the players police themselves again with fists, not elbows, knees, and sticks.

I'm turning off my TV and going outside.

What we've been watching isn't hockey... it's war. And not in a good "hockey war" kind of way.

There's gointg to be about 12 skaters on each bench for the finals at this rate. This kind of garbage has no place (and I'm not talking about just Carkner... it's in almost every series)...
