After that home run swing to Hollweg's face, how many games are you expecting Simon to get?

I'm thinkin at the very minimum 7, but most likely 12-15 games.

Too bad Orr was at the other end of the ice when this happened.

Terrible, at least the remainder of the season, if not more! What a Knucklehead, he tried to take his head off.

You know how stupid the NHL is?

Because Hollweg was ok and was able to get up Simon probably won't be suspended for more then 15 games.

If Hollweg was stretchered off in a neck brace you can g.u.a.r.e.n.t.e.e. the NHL would suspend Simon for like 40+ games.

That my fishing buddy from WAWA.... I will have to put him in the penalty box this summer on my way to Lake Esnagi in Ontario. This bums me out as I have sorta gotten to know Chris and he a pretty good guy. This is not what he needs to happen. Wow--thanks for posting up the video I will check that out and I am sure it will be on ESPN as well.

Simon has to be gone for the balance of this season and a fair sized chunk of next, if not more, without a doubt. 15 games is nowhere near stiff enough a penalty for things like this. Remember when Marty McSorley did it and got banned for life? I think this particular event is a lot worse. Personally I think he should not be allowed to suit up for another game though NHL officials will more than likely think differently...

edit: I watched it again and despite being a Chris Simon fan I am absolutely disgusted by his reaction. The fact that so many non-hockey fans are going to see this clip as opposed to something like Ovechkin scoring "the goal" makes me even more upset. Hockey gets yet another black eye. This garbage has seriously got to end.

First off, I'm glad that Hollweg is OK. Simon coulda killed him. Second, I think Simon should get the first star for the game. His 5 minute major cost the Isles and handed the Rangers 2 pts. on a silver platter. I bet his teammates are as pissed as anyone. As far as a suspension, I say 10-15 games. As others have said, Hollweg was OK and although that shouldn't be a determining factor in the length of the suspension, it most likely will be. Mike

That is disgusting, irresponsible, and really has no place in ANY sport let alone the one that I enjoy the most. I think the NHL has to turn this ugly event into a positive and throw the book at him - this season and one more sounds about right. Send a strong message, let everyone know that this remnant of "old style" aka reckless hockey is not welcome. This kind of neanderthal behavior shouldn't be the only thing that people see when they think of the NHL in 2007, but sadly it will be in the memory of most casual fans and non-fans. When is the NHL gonna grow up and hold themselves accountable for this kind of unnaceptable activity? I say they gotta do that NOW.

Soapbox is now stored away for next rant ;).

It'll be the rest of the season and playoffs. No more...

You're right, Marty got banned for life, but he was set to retire anyway. Simon still has years left to play.

I was really surprised by the reaction as well - I've always known he was a bit of a meat head, but I don't remember anything close to this before out of him. It's too bad.

1) McSorley wasn't banned for life, he got a 1 year suspension and just retired
2) This is not worse than the McSorley incedent, Simon got hit, lost his temper and hit hollweg, McSorley followed Brashear all the way down the ice before cracking him in the head

I wouldn't compare it to McSorley, it's actually closer to what Perezhogin did in the AHL a couple years back. A dirty reaction that should cost him the rest of the season and playoffs.

I saw the hit on Simon and it didn't look to bad to me but not watching the game maybe there was some other things that led up to the point where Simon had enough and turned around and then swung his stick. Simon reaction to the hit on him was wrong and the hit to the face with the stick just stunned me to watch it last night on the local news. As a fan of Simon I am saddened by these actions and do hope he is punished appropriately for his actions.

BINGO! Simon was getting frustrated with him all game. Im surprised he did what he did and theres no excuse for what he did, he will be gone for the rest of the regular season. Islanders got jerked at the end too...

Late to the party - but I can easily see a 1 year suspension effectively ending simon's career. With all the press the NHL will get on this 'intent to injure' act, Bettman will have act in a show of strength.

Simon's rash act is really not much different than McSorely's - and that was effdectively a year as well. I don't care to hear anything about how Simon was run on........ plain & simple he crossed the line by using his stick in that manner.

I see him getting suspended for the rest of the year (regular season and playoffs) and something like 10 games for next year. This will be an attempt by Bettman to crack down on these kinds of hits but will blow up in his face (what doesn't) when this get re-visited (shown over and over again) next season.
