I recently pulled a Lafreniere clear cut young Guns and I was wondering what to look for before sending it out to grade. Everything looks really nice, but is there any specific flaws on the acetate cards to look for? Is this even worth getting graded or will scarcity hold it’s value without grading (assuming he turns out as advertised)? Been largely out of the hobby for a little while (as you can tell by my signature, lol) and I’ve just started dipping my toes back in. Thank you!

I don't think you need to have a card like that graded. It's noticibly scarcer card, so that is what a buyer will want to buy, not the grade.

If you sell this card now, I'd sell it raw.

Just my 2 cents.

It’s a tough call, I can’t see ever getting as much for it as I could now, but who knows 🤷*♂️ Could also get some nice stuff in trade. I’m torn on it.

Surface almost always has scratches. Usually the edges, corners and centering are bang on, but if you’re going to get nicked anywhere, it’s on surface.

I agree with Aaron that it doesn't NEED to be graded. The obsession with grading is out of control right now. That said, getting this card graded makes more sense than about 90% of the cards I see people asking about on Facebook, LOL.

To answer your question though, surface is very important on these between scratches and finger prints. Other things to look for is cracks in the acetate (often near the edges) and ink chipping/scratching off.

You can clean up the surface quickly and easily with a bit of eyeglass cleaner and a microfiber cloth - will clean off the fingerprints and such gently and safely, make it much more presentable.
