So at $0.25 to a card to sit there priced at $1.00 for a month it works out to be more expensive to sell on COMC vs ebay? I am just curious how people work the math out. I dont sell on COMC but do take advantage of Ebays free 1000 listings every once and a while. I understand that its easier to list on COMC as they do all the sorting and scanning but it just seems that for $1 cards (the ones everyone seems to rave about how many they sell on COMC) the fees are more than Ebay. Especially if you want the cash out. Maybe I am wrong?
Lets use a card that sells for $1.00 (not including shipping)
I see Ebay/Paypal fees as 20% of your final value (its less than this but lets call it that) Only paid if you sell something also. Put $.80 in your pocket.
COMC is $0.25 right out of the gate if it sells or not. Price goes up from there for every month that $1.00 card sits there. Put $.75 or less in your pocket. This does not include what it cost to pull your cash right?
I understand that the flat rate shipping is good on COMC? Just a question as I have never purchased anything. How much different is it to sellers on Ebay who offer a flat rate of XX regardless of how many cards. Just curious what people think that sell on both or have chosen one over the other.
Doug, if your time is only worth a nickel to scan, list, ship, and deal with feedback and possible issues, you should be spending more time with your kids!
I have been using COMC for almost 3 years. I have only sold cards that are not worth my time to sell on eBay. In almost 3 years I am at 4,679 cards sold. Every single one of them would not be worth space in my showcase or even posting for sale on HI - too much work for the average value which by the way is $2.54. My lifetime sales there are $11,890 and just about all has been spent on COMC for cards averaging around $23.50.
So for me I have converted 4,679 cards worth $2.50 each into 474 cards worth $20 each and these $23.50 cards are either PC or are worth my time to sell on eBay, here or put into my showcases at shows. That is over $11,000 that is either in my pocket or in my PC or in my trader box that would otherwise be n a trader box that I wouldn't even bother lugging to card shows and would sell to a bulk buyer for nickels on the dollar.
COMC, once you figure out how to maximize its use, is one of the best options we have to clear out low-mid end cards. Even though lots of sellers astro-price their cards, I often find fair priced cards that I know I can sell for more than I got for on COMC or I want for my PC. And then you do not incur the withdrawal fee and often get more than you spent in store credit so instead of incurring a fee, I have managed to get even more money for a swing of almost 40%.
I suppose the longer it takes other people to figure it out, the better it is for me as I get more sales and more buying opportunities. So yeah, COMC sucks, stay away.
