Comc New Shipping Rates

I can understand the $3 rate disappearing. That sadly does make sense.
That being said, I'm hoping that COMC will consider shipping direct from the US for Canada buyers as I've only been hit with duties on two of my many shipments from the US. Failing that, I'll have to change to my US address.
I'm also curious as I test ran a shipment request and it appears that I'm paying duties on the shipping costs, and I'm not quite sure that's correct.

In Canada, you can now avoid the hassle of dealing with customs by shipping through Canada Post. Because we regularly drive shipments across the border, we now charge duties when you place your shipment request, alleviating you of any surprise fees while eliminating the provincial tax and Canadian Border Service Agency handling fees.

I did read the blog post - but what I'm seeing is

So Economy is $5.24 with $1.12 duties - fine. Economy Rushed is $16 more adding to an 80 cent increase (16 x 5%) - so I'm paying for shipping costs. On every single item I've ever bought and paid duty on, I've never paid duty for the shipping costs. This is eBay/Amazon/MyComicShop and many more. It's always been duty on the items purchased.

Wait a second.. so now shipping to Canada is $4.99 US.. yet the 2 times I ordered packages from COMC they were shipped from a location WITHIN Canada and cost $1.71 CAD through Canada post (yet I paid $3 US flat fee) AND they charge for toploaders, is this a joke? That's pure robbery when you're charged $6.50 CAD for them to ship a $1.71 package WITHOUT proper protection! Either I'm missing something here or it looks like I'm never using COMC again.

I got the feeling that something was going to change after waiting a extremely long time for my last package to be shipped. They must get flooded with emails from people wondering why they haven't gotten their cards yet.
It was only a matter of time for this increase. In the four years since implementing the $3 flat shipping, prices have gone up quite significantly. And although I am bummed about the extra cost, it still beats the living heck out of buying low end cards from ebay. Now I might just wait a little longer to make a shipping request but the increase shouldn't effect my overall buying habits.

The 3 bucks really was too good to stay for long, but essentially double the price? Methinks that's a bit steep.
My second-last shipment I waited until I had accumulated 100 cards in my "stored" shipment to get their $5 bonus. The cards were immaculately packaged, with top loaders surrounding penny-loaders, then packaged into a 200-count box inside a 300-count box. Assuming the boxes cost at wholesale even a buck each and the pennies were 50 cents for 100 , that's still 2.50 of packaging they paid for my shipment before mail charges which I'm sure were around 5 bucks, plus the $5.00 credit and I made out like a bandit.
With their new limit of 50 cards before a possible additional spike in price it'll be near impossible to get the $5.00 credit again.
As far as duty goes, I've never had to pay duty on the 10 or so shipments I've had from them.
At this point I'll probably stay at ComC for the foreseeable future since getting Jets OPC cards just about any other way costs more (especially trying to shop locally!). I've pretty much milked their supply of 1.0 cards I needed dry and I've learned to be very patient with my shipment requests. Heck, I'll just wait until they have another free shipment day... assuming those happen anymore...

You have to understand though that in addition to the true cost of sending via Canada Post, it still costs COMC money for the shipping supplies (cardboard boxes or bubble envelopes, bubble wrap), and labour to pay employees to organize and gather everything together and package shipments. Then there's the cost of paying an employee to drive a truck (fuel is another expense) from the American warehouse to the Canadian office and mail everything.
A $2 increase is a little steep (plus the new duty charges) but it's still miles cheaper than having cards shipped to me directly each time I purchase from the US.

I think the increases are reasonable. COMC is a one of a kind place and you can just leave all your cards there to accumulate. Compare that to shipping from eBay and it's 10x cheaper!

Sorry for "hijacking" here but I have a question....
I'm okay with the small raise since it's still so much cheaper compared with to ship each one to me from NA thorough ebay.
The problem is that comc also added a new feature...you had to declare the value of all cards you bought from ebay. So my question is that if I MUST declare the exact value (what I paid for each ones) otherwise will I get some serious problem if I "cheats" with it then...
But I saw on each shipment which comc has sent to me before that they declared the value as $50 every times, no matter if it's 5 or 30 cards....
If I indeed had to declare the exact value so I had to pay unreal amount of taxes/duties here in sweden, it may even exceed the total value if I'm very lucky like during the nightmare with the Neo Geo console when I bought it during 2004, $340 for the console itself woth 3 games and then $700-$800 in....well you understand what I'm trying to tell here, still hurts like **** even after +10 years later.....
Is it okay for me to declare the value as $50 or will I encounter problems since the staffs of comc will no doubt realize that I'm lying then since many of these cards i buys are like 1/1's and ultra-rares then?
Even if they did the very same thing before like I mentioned earlier, but maybe it's different now?
Otherwise I'm screwed and done with collecting since 80-90% of ebayers refuse to ship outside NA now plus the USD rate has gone up pretty much at lately.....
I indeed want to continue to collect but it has gotten harder and harder for every months now especially us who lives in overseas.....

I can't see you having any problems from COMC's end if you declare the value low. You're the customer and call me crazy, but I don't see them caring much as long as you keep buying and paying.
For the rest of us, I'm willing to bet I'm not alone when I say that, unless I'm concerned with the insurance and the package getting lost, I almost always mark the value low. Do you think I'd actually give the Post more of my money if I can get away with it? Fat chance there. Its not as if its just a couple dollars either. Customs fees can cost an arm and a leg.
