COMC oddity to share

So here's a weird thing that just happened.

I was eyeballing a Jim Carey Signature Rookies auto /2500 on COMC.

After finally getting some funds, I figured, "why not see if the seller will go below his asking price?"

So I put in the offer, and the seller rejected.

Not a problem, right? I figured I'd go in and purchase at the asking price, no fuss no muss. Except, the item is seemingly no longer listed.

Methinks the seller realized that the card is more rare than he at first thought and decided to pull the listing!

Oddity, but I thought I'd share.

And yeah, yeah yeah, shouldn't have lowballed... blah blah blah. The card will be mine, one way or another!

I love COMC...I've been picking up cards I owned as a kid and I've put together a Shaquille O'Neal RC collection (I had them all as a teenager!) for under $20.

Some of the sellers on there are pretty quirky as well. Most have been easy to deal with but if you don't want to sell your cards, don't list them.

I must be missing something , what is so rare about this card ?

2500 copies may exist, but they're hard to come by since many went to dealers as promotional pieces - and likely not all left the factory in the first place.

More likely they're buried in boxes or *shudder* have been tossed away. Sig Rookies is also a dead company and any assets they had - leftover stock etc - is likely gone for good.

Actually, check Amazon. For some reason, some comc stuff that doesn't show on their website does show in the Amazon store.

So I contacted COMC this morning. Turns out that, as odd as the coincidence is, the item 'sold' right after my pitch was rejected.

So yep, my suspicion that he plucked it off once he realized what it was seems true. Can't say I blame him.
