Saw this discussion going on and figured a nice poll would be nice to see who everyone picked.

If you pick "Other" let us know who you think was more deserving.

LOL, funny to see one of these after the fact but I'll play.

I had Murray pegged as my pick but want to add I didn't disagree with the Crosby pick.

My thoughts exactly.

Was watching with some buddies and we paused and all made our guesses as to who would win. Two of us picked Murray, two others picked Letang, and one guy picked Crosby. Interestingly, out of all 5 of us, the one guy who I would say is the most knowledgeable and a hockey player himself is the one who took Crosby.

IMO, from watching all of the games in the SCF and most of the earlier rounds too, I think Crosby was very deserving. What you do and say on the bench and how you motivate and give your teammates confidence in themselves is a huge part of leading a winning team to the Cup and that is exactly what Crosby did.

Murray, Letang, Kessel, Rust, Khunackl, Hornqvist, Hagelin, Sullivan etc all had spectacular playoffs. (Jones and Couture too.) This was a team win in every sense of the word. I was so impressed with MA Fleury's attitude and his team mentality I would love to have him come to play for the Flames. Big RESPECT for him after these playoffs!

And congrats to one of the greatest of all time - Mario Lemieux!

Before it was announced, I assumed and felt with certainty it would be Martin Jones, despite being on a losing team. No individual carried the Penguins, though Crosby's on-ice leadership was very special. I really thought it would be Jones picking up that piece of hardware.

Jones didn't drag the Sharks through the first three rounds though - he played well in the final round, but he wasn't the only reason the team was there, so personally, I don't think he had a shot.

I think Crosby was an easy pick from an unimaginative group of voters. Yes, he may have done enough to win it, but so did others.

I'll live with it, but with a big yawn, which is probably what Crosby thinks of winning it as well. His eye was on the bigger prize.

I think the bolded statement sums it up, and I agree. Crosby was the "easy" pick.

I also thought Murray but wasn't shocked by the Sid pick either. Nor would I have been shocked with Kessel or Letang, even Bonino to a certain extent.

I didn't think Crosby was the right pick, I felt like he had a good finals but two players were ahead of him in my eyes. Kessel & Murray. I agree with some of the statements above that he was the "easy" pick. Great player, played well, just not the best pick.

I believe Jones was the best player but I wouldn't give it to a player on the losing team. I voted Crosby as he was the difference for Pittsburgh. Went head to head with the best forward line and top D on the other team. He was a beast with game winning goals, on big face offs and dominating the Sharks top line in the finals. He really played the best all around game on a really solid four line team. My second pick would be Letang. Kessel scored some but was still a liability on D and choked on 5-6 easy goals in the last 2 games, Murray was solid and also worthy. If he had more shots and didn't give up some weak goals in the finals he probably would have won it. I think it was a close vote.

I forgot Crosby scored 3 game winners in the Tampa series, choreographed the OT winner in game 2 of the finals and set up the winner in game 6 ...

I felt that it was hard to single out anyone from the Penguins and that it might have been one of the rare times that it might have gone to someone on the losing team. Logan Couture seemed like he had the best playoffs of anyone from the drop of the puck in round one all the way to the final.

My best,

Ken

I think that's fair. I really only watched Jones during the Finals, and beyond that, made note of his numbers going in. I knew he wasn't the primary reason they arrived in the Finals, but he's really the only one who kept them competitive.

Crosby was my choice. Although Kessel and Letang could have easily got it. Murray was not on my radar. He was good, but he did not play great.

It would be interesting to do another poll to see how many people that voted here watched all the games. Watching highlights and listening to commentators isn't the same as actually watching the games. I have guys at my work with all these opinions and haven't even watched the games lol.

i have been away for quite some time and now that the dust has settled on a few things i needed to comment on two important posts. one is this one.

First congrats to both Kessel and Murry for having such a great playoff run! especially Kessel, i have not seem that kind of player passion in someone since Zetterberg took the Conn Smythe in 2008.

however,

My pick was Crosby, not only did he lead the team off the ice like Lemieux and other greats of the past did, but in the round that they struggled the most he stepped up and got three game winners to move them on to the finals. huge sign of a leader.

Congrats to all of the Pens and there fans on a great season and winning the greatest chalice in sport history!!:pens::stanley::stanley::stanley::stanley:
