So here is my problem if you can really call it that. I got a call from Meigrey today while I was out....I had sent away to be on a waiting list for a Mike Richards playoff Game worn Jersey. Meigray told me that I have the oppurtunity to purchase his Third set White jersey form this year's playoffs. I Don't have alot of Mula right now..(-alot from school) and the Jersey will cost $1250 which seens VERY VERY reasonable to me considering the Caliber of player he has turned into. Now as of Tommorrow I will be done school for good (last exam) so can start to have a fixed income from here on in. I have a feeling that the next time his Jerseys become available they are gonna be twice as much considering how well he is doing. What should I do...Make the deposit??? and try to get that thing??? I have 60 days to pay it off... I think that If I don't I may regret it..... but I've got a boatload of debt....should I just wait till next year....also I may be able to convince family to chip in as a grad gift....P.S can't wait till my exam is done tommorrow!!!

Do NOT go into debt for a hobby. Considering that you already have (a boatload) debt, then I would not even consider fringe purchases like this.

I agree. Hobby purchases should always be over and above the bills. If it's extra money after the bills are paid spend away.

I agree. I'd never put myself in debt, not even for a Kharlamov jersey and that's saying much.

Thankfully I'm cheap as it is.

I'd like to take the other side here. While I wouldn't put myself in debt like the others said, if you wait til next time the jersey could possibly be double the price. Is that worth it? Also if you already have a "boatload" of debt, what's another 1250 bucks? Not always the smartest way of thinking but really I would that train of thought for myself, at least a little bit.

Don't listen, stupid thinking!!! He's the  Don't ever go in debt for a hobby let alone more debt on top of already a boat load!!!

What's another $1250??? That kinda thinking will get you in a crapload of trouble

It's a tough call. You don't want to regret NOT purchasing it, but yet you don't wanna put yourself in debt even more.

I would say pass it up, and when you get a good job...it won't matter how much the jersey cost.

hey man, I'm in the same boat as you in the hobby. This may be a long read but I know where you are coming from.

I'm only in my second year, and I'm in debt from student loans. However I do have a part-time job but that job is not used to pay off my debt. The loans are meant to be paid off after I graduate and get a full time job in my field of study. Which should make sense since the loans are MEANT to be paid off after I graduate (interest doesn't catch in until a time period AFTER I find a job)

Yes I know it would be much better idea if I saved up money from my part time job to help pay for my loan after I graduate. But the money I make from my part-time job is used for my own expenses and leisure, not to mention other things my loan doesn't cover like gas (to go to and from school) and credit card bills.

I always try to payoff my credit card bills first but I am also in debt from that (not that much though). I realize I do have some money issues and I shouldn't actually go TOO deep in the hobby. This is what I've decided to do and maybe something you should consider:

I've decided to stop opening anymore packs and cut back on my buying on here and on eBay. Basically I am only looking at one more Sakic piece.. an autographed jersey and thats it. Like you maybe you should only consider buying one more piece for your hobby collection and stop until you make the money.

So basically if its a piece you really want, and you know for sure you can stop after, go for it. Just make sure you keep that promise to yourself like I will ;)

hmmm...make the decision after you find out if your family will chip in as a grad gift....if you get 500.00+ in grad gift money you'll certainly have a nice chunk of the jersey paid off....I am a little in the middle here...because some are right...if you are making a decent salery even if it doubles in price you will be more prepared to pay for it without worry

If you are already in a boatload of debt, then by the time you actually pay off the $1250 it might be twice as much anyways with the interest!! So... don't buy it. Wait until you are in a position to make the purchase without putting yourself into more debt...

That's my 2 cents...

well does boatload of debt = student loan?

if = credit card debt then its a no no

i think student loans give you some time after you graduate before you have to start making monthly payments?
