Cooke gets 7 games. What a joke. A player with his history, and his D-Baggery, he should be out for longer.
The end of the video pointed out that under the CBA - he was NOT considered a repeat offender.
So there you go Don Fehr - negotiate it so that guys who intentionally injure other players consistently gets bailed out by a negotiation...
I'm not going to defend Cooke's history... but does anyone really think there was an intent to injure here? if that knee draws a 7 game suspension then Seabrook's head-hunting should be at least that. (and Shawn Thornton's sucker punch should have kept him out much, much, much longer.) if the measures of any suspension or fine is if, and how badly, a player was injured, that's a dangerous game for the league to play. if they can't be consistent it's hard to take them seriously.
Cookie has a reputation that he's earned and deserves... so he'll always be scrutinized. but while the injury was very unfortunate, that knee isn't the worst thing we've seen in the past week.
Look I am a die hard wild fan. I didn't like the signing of cook and still dont. I think he should have been kicked out of the league 4-6 years ago. But I will say the hit was not that bad. The other player was piviting on the leg trying to move away from the hit cook was going to lay down. So in planting that foot to move away from the hit put him in a very very bad spot. Cooks knee hit his and yes his leg kinda stuck out but just look at how both players were trying to avoid the hit.
Again I'm not a cook fan at all but it wasn't as bad as everyone thinks.
I will say it again he should have been kicked out of the league 4-6 years ago
Honestly, the next time he steps on the ice in a game, is there anyone who would be upset if he got run and never played again? I can't remember there ever being a player with this many suspensions, injuring as many people as he has, ending a career, and given chance after chance. Sure Tucker was a puke, Avery a complete tool shed, but not to this level. Tucker on Peca was bad, but that is the only incident i can remember where it was clear he was trying to hurt someone. Maybe Marchment might come close, but I think Cooke is in a league all his own on the gutless puke scale.
Do we really think there is a player, past or present, who actually respects this guy? Yeah his current teammates might "tow the company line" in the media because you don't want a divided locker room, but I bet every player in the league including the Wild players thinks he is a total worthless POS. Since the league allows him to keep playing, you know someone is finally going to snap and go McSorley or Simon on him, and the sad thing is, they will probably get suspended for longer then Cooke did here. He's going to get run or baseball swung to the head, the players can only take so much before they rebel against him and the league. We saw it with Hollweg, another turd like Cooke, and Simon had enough and baseballed him to the face, and the league banned him for it. What Simon did was wrong, but with the emotion of the game, and Hollweg refusing to stand up for himself, I don't blame or fault Simon for doing what hundreds of other players probably wish they could do.
