Hi,

Supposed to get another card instead I got a Gretzky, Lemieux and a Roy RC. I think they are all counterfeit but I can't find my one price guide that I had to tell the difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Added scans.

Thanks,

Dave

gretzky is a fake... WAYYY too bright, and looks to be in tip top shape... also, there is no dot on his left shoulder

dont know much about the others, but im sure the gretz is a fake

The OPC Gretzky is missing the print spot on the the left shoulder. Definitely took "clean" of a card as well.

The Lemieux actually looks decent. I see some age/chipping on the back... plus off centering. I think that might be real.

The Roy is too "clean" and centered as well. Most likely fake.

check your lemieux against a common card from 85-86 opc, I have a stamped reprint lemieux and the color on back is way off, also you can see a bit of the background color bleeding up the edge of the card if you hold it in the right light

I'd be able to tell for sure if I was there in person. My bet would be that Gretz and Roy are definitely reprints while Lemieux might be.

You say they sent those instead? I guess the question is, instead of what? If you were supposed to get like $20 worth of cards, they're obviously all fake... if you were waiting on serious $$ cards, maybe scan them at higher resolutions for the resident experts to review.

The easiest way to determine if they are in fact 'Reproductions' Is to compare them to common cards from the same sets.

From what I can see from the pics:

Gretzky: Definite FAKE

Lemieux & Roy. Are difficult to see from the supplied scans.

As has been has been already mentioned above. Give us the individual scans outta of the holder's Front & back of each card. That is for a positive ID?

for starters, a couple easy ways to check before going into real deep scrutiny:
- check the edges... are they sharp? If so, I would bet the farm they are counterfeits. OPC cards were cut with razor wires back in the day... hence the term OPC cut. What is an OPC cut? A rough cut. Check any OPC card from the eighties - they are all somewhat rough cut.

Check the card thickness. Does it seem too thin? If so, I would bet the farm they are counterfeits. Why? It seems that most counterfeiters have not bothered to reprint on a similar type of cardstock. They typically use a cheap flimsy card stock.

These two methods quickly whittle down most cards as to whether they are legit or not.

Keep in mind that the 3 cards you have are basically THE cards that are heavily counterfeited, along with the Orr RC.
