Penguins' Crosby cleared for contact
Thursday, October 13, 2011
By Shelly Anderson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Penguins center and captain Sidney Crosby has been cleared to have contact in practice, the next step in his comeback from a concussion.

Crosby skated on a regular line and was not wearing an alternate-colored, non-contact helmet at the team's morning skate today.

It's not clear how long he might hit and be hit in practices before he gets clearance to play.

He was diagnosed with a concussion Jan. 6. and has not played since.

Oh there's a little boy here in this house who loves the Kid.

Can't wait to tell him.

Personally I think he is is starting contact way too early (Crosby, not my son). Another four months wouldn't hurt him at all.

I'm a little bit confused. I read that he's skating between Dupuis and Cooke...yet he won't be playing, he'll just be practicing. Won't that hurt the line chemistry, as they'll have a different center in-game?

Dupuis and Cooke NOT play tonight? I can't see that happening... Malkin is coming back into the lineup so that leave Park as the most likely scratch. Not Dups or Cookie.

That's all well and good. But still, why not have Crosby centering the 2 wingers who are expected top be scratched (there were 5 lines listed) and have all 4 other lines practicing together? Not a big deal, just weird.

I don't know who is telling you Dupuis and Cooke are going to be scratched tonight but I'm going to call bull on that.

Pens lines from the morning skate:
Cooke-Crosby-Dupuis
Sullivan-Malkin-Neal
Kunitz-Staal-Kennedy
Asham-Park-Adams

Letang-Engelland
Martin-Michalek
Lovejoy-Niskanen

from the pens website. I think he's been skating with a few combinations all week, but don't quote me on that. Malkin is said to be a game-time decision for tonight.

Where is Vitalie(sp)??? he plays before park.

Fleury out tonight, sick.

I never said Dupuis and Cooke would be scratched. I never said McIntyre would be playing before them. I'm trying to figure out why, if he's not playing, he's practicing between 2 players who WILL be playing. If you don't think he's going to play, have him skating between the 2 of Adams/Park/Asham/Vitale/Letestu/MacIntyre who won't be playing, and have Dupuis and Cooke practice with the center they'll actually play with. Not a big deal, just seems odd to me.

you said Crosby was skating with them today, then in a second post you said you didn't know why if none of those 3 were to be playing tonight. I took that as you said Crosby Cooke Dupuis were not going to play tonight

jmatchett; All I can think is that none of the 3 will play tonight.[/QUOTE said:
So which 3 are not playing then?

Question
On having a limited amount of practices this month and the possible affect it can have on Sidney Crosby’s progress:
Answer
Well it makes it difficult. You look at the schedule and there’s not a lot of practices. We’re traveling and we’re on the road for some games so it makes it difficult which is why today and even the morning skate he participated on a line. He hasn’t been on a line for some of the practices. Trying to give him those situations a little more often is something we’re going to do every chance we get. That’s why he participated on the power play this morning as well. To get some reps with the possible combinations he’d be playing with. It’s difficult and we will make adjustments to get everything we need, and it might mean more practice time or additional practice times if we can’t do that with a regular practice.

That should sum up why he was skating with Cooke and Dupuis.

Okay, that makes sense. Not saying I expected them to scratched, just wondered why, and I guess that clears uit up.
Hope he is back soon. I know that any team that beats the Pens will get "Well yeah, but we didn't have Crosby, so..." and such. Immensely talented player, good for the game, want to beat the best.
