Crosby YG Reprints?

Homemade.... and yeah, very hard to tell. I'm guessing if you had it in hand it's a little easier to spot the different, but couldn't say that for sure.

The problem would be down the line. Sure, the initial listing says "reprint", but that gets sold a few times and eventually someone either loses track or passes it off as real.

That looks scary real. UD wouldn't reprint these YG's, so someone someone has found a way to make these look super real.

Wouldn't surprise me if these get passed off as real soon :( ...

Foil and all? Hard to say for sure from the photo but it seems like it's there. Yikes. Fakes and forgeries have always been a problem with blue chip cards like this but the way prices have been skyrocketing across the hobby lately it's only going to get worse unfortunately.

What's the law say about forgery, even when listed as forgery? Isn't this a violation of Upper Deck's copyright/trademark? (I have no legal training.)

I'm not saying they do or don't reprint cards, and I doubt they had anything at all to do with these, but remember all these cards from sets 3,4,5 years past that suddenly become "bonus" hits in their products? Cards that allegedly were printed before and never got back in time?

Also the Jack Eichel 2015-16 cards were issued when? 2018-19? I can't remember the exact year? Again, definitely not saying they DID, but please never say never, especially with non-autographed cards!

And you should read "Card Sharks", it's extremely insightful.:D

I'm going to say these 'reprints' are utter garbage.

It's hard to tell from a scan whether there is foiling, but when you check the seller's feedback, multiple negatives report these reproductions to be "very low quality."

Assuming there is no affiliation with Upper Deck, it would be hard to make any foil die/stamp of the Upper Deck logo anywhere in North America without getting into some issues with copyright, especially with the intention to sell

That being said, you could go out of country...

Judging by the feedback, it looks like he/she has sold north of 100 of these reprints (Crosby and McDavid). Like a couple of the posters have said, good possibility that they will be in the marketplace as real pretty soon (if not already).

UD would stop him I'm sure.
Wonder if they know

Would they though?

I guess the Crosby YG would probably get a lot more attention (I hope) from UD, but there have been reprints and 'custom' patch cards on UD Base cards floating around for a long time now with Upper Deck's logo attached and there hasn't been anything done.

Edit:

Here's an example of these custom base cards floating around on eBay

I have been out of the hobby for a few years, so as I'm slowly getting back to it, I was wondering if I somehow missed something about a reprint of this, or a re-release of some sorts!?

I do find it scary, because if he didn't say "reprint" in the title, I wouldn't be able to tell that it was a reprint.

There's a difference between that YG reprint and this:

That is a bit more obvious! Even if it didn't say custom made. haha

Thanks again for the input!

Printing technology are so advanced nowadays, it's a matter of time someone will circulate reprints as real. I bought an OPC Gretzky RC last year with the yellow dot on the shoulder, and the card turned out to be fake. The seller in QC would not take it back, had to fight hard with paypal and CC to get it resolved.

Majority of my collections have autographs on the cards so I know those are safe. It's scary to see this seller has sold hundreds of Crosby, McDavid, Matthews, Marner, Kane Young Guns that are reprints.

Man that's an ugly card. Looks like it got relisted @ $50 with no bids.

You know, some of these reprints have sold for absurd prices. Now it's entirely possible people didn't realize they were reprints even though they were clearly labeled as such. But it's also possible they're willing to pay stupid money on the chance they can pass it off as real for even stupider money.

That's a very good point, never thought of that. But it's also a very sad point, too.
