Anyone else other than me think there should have been at least a suspension out of the slash on methot. I know its a play that happens all the time in The league, but I bet if it were Marchand that did that he would have gotten a suspension.
If I were him I'd keep my head up the next time he faces the Sens.

It is a play that happens all the time, but you have to be in control of your stick at all times and the fact that a player lost a piece of his finger, he should have received a fine or suspension in my opinion. If Methot did that to Crosby, the world would have stopped rotating.

Sid is a stand up player. He knows how the hockey code works. He didn't target Methot's finger with the intent of injuring him. As he said in the post game interviews, he was trying to get his stick. He clearly wasn't happy that it happened and regretted that it did happen. I have no doubt that had he been suspended he would have accepted it. And if Methot wants to go next time they play each other then he will do what he has to do. That's the way it should be. The two players involved will settle matters. Not some scrub, who wasn't involved, taking a cheap shot and trying to make a name for himself.

I'm sorry but Crosby won't fight this battle someone else would have to do that for him
Bad to say but they would prob try to hurt Crosby for retribution

I agree totally they would have prob hung somebody if that happened to Crosby

Don't even get me started with Crosby. Not only does he get missed penalties and suspensions by spearing a player in the nuts, or breaking a fingers with a slash. Apparently he's allowed to score goals by hitting the goaltenders glove with his stick. The league has been brutally inconsistent with their calls this year, I honestly don't have a clue what to even predict after a challenged goal or a possible suspension. I guess it depends who it is... Even Marchand, he has a terrible history with dirty play and suspensions, and yet somehow he gets away with slew foots on multiple occasions this year...

You have a little skin in the game here Nick. If Marchand speared Crosby in the jiblets, or cut off part of his finger with a slash, you'd have a different take on this.

I know I will get lambasted for saying anything, because I have black and gold glasses on ...but the fact of the matter is, Crosby should have gotten a 2 minute penalty for the slash on Methot. Talking about a suspension is just sour grapes and jealousy. That play happens about 30 times per game! It was unfortunate that his finger was broken, but the same happened to Connor Sheary twice this year, once from Ovechkin. Was there a suspension? No.. Was there a penalty? No.. Sheary missed 8 games with a broken bone in his wrist. Bottom line is every time Crosby does something wrong, people get rambunctious and do not think before they type. I usually just let this stuff go, and I probably should again, but it is absurd to think a suspension for that play.
I see what Crosby endures on a nightly basis, and trust me, if suspensions are handed out for slashes on stick or hands, there will not be enough players to play the games..

Nah, I won't lambaste you, same thing happened to Gaudreau and there wasn't any discipline.

Its popular to criticize the best player in the world for being a whiner or cheap shot artist but he's taken as many slashes as he's dished.

Melnyk's recent comments came from a passionate owner who should have taken a deep breath first.

these are my exact thoughts, for something that happens lots in a game, there sure is a lot of talk about it.

Team owners shouldn't be making comments like this publically, he may have to eat his words some day.

Remember when the Cavs owner tore LeBron to shreds in a public letter after he left for the Heat? Didn't take him long to regret that one.

This.

It should have been a two-minute penalty. The injury was just one of those weird things that happen. Like when I was tripped at centre ice and ended up with a broken wrist. Everyone was wondering 'how the heck did his wrist get broken form a straight on fall to the ice?'

I'm more pissed that he didn't even get a phone call about the spear to the junk. No need for that crap at all. And there's no way anyone can argue that that one wasn't intentional.

I'm a Sens fan and I agree with this. The problem is the officials on the ice. Slashes in the hand area should ALWAYS be called as a 2 minute penalty. If a player is injured because of said slash, it should be a 5 minute major. That's what the rulebook states. Instead, they call slashes when sticks break. It's absolutely ridiculous.

One thing I will say though is that Crosby is a dirty player. The spear to the groin of O'Reilly was as dirty as it gets. There is absolutely no place for that sort of thing in the game.

I will say, I think Crosby's antics are plain ridiculous of late. HOWEVER:

The officiating in the NHL this year has been a pile of inconsistent garbage. One night there's 13 powerplays, the next night "they let them play" which is absurd, and what causes things like the Methot injury. Players rarely get called for slashing other players (only hitting a composite stick is a penalty these days) so they continue to do it more and more because they can. It's pathetic, and the only person to blame is the NHL and their poor officiating night in and night out. Not defending Crosby's actions at all (I think you deserve a slashing penalty there) but quite frankly the blame should be pointed at the NHL.

That stuff happens all the time, every game.....slash worst than that every second shift. If it wasn't Crosby it wouldn't even make the highlights. Like every star Crosby takes abuse every shift. It is hockey which is a physical, contact sport.

First things first.I'm a Leafs fan so I have no preference
to Sid or the Pens or Methot and the Sens.In fact,I hate the Sens
and Pens but like Crosby as a player.:D That being said, that slash
should have warranted a 2 minute penalty at most.As has been
said over and over, that happens countless times in a game. But,
that game of bag tag Crosby played on O'Reilly was friggin'
dirty.Google the video. For Crosby to say that was an accident
is a total crock. He hit exactly what he was trying to hit.Just my
2 dollars and 50 cents!!!:D

If slashes like the one Crosby gave warrant a suspension (which I don't believe),
we'll never get through the first round of the playoffs...even the goalies would be gone!

:snapout: :snapout: :snapout: :snapout: :snapout: :snapout:

Just my opinion but a 2 minute penalty would have been in order, no matter if it was for Sid or the Pope!
