CSG thoughts and opinions

I, like many of you possibly, are gathering many raw cards that you are just waiting for PSA to open up again. I am thinking that when PSA returns the prices are going to be very expensive. My thinking is I might want try out CSG. The time seems right with PSA and BGS showing no signs of returning with outlandish prices. Has anyone tried CSG? What do you think of them? I know that their parent company has tons of cash so it does not seem likely they are going anywhere. So, what do you think--should I try them out? Is anybody else thinking like I am? How do you view them in the hobby? Do they get any respect among collectors? Do you find them to be more strict or more lenient in their grading than PSA or BGS?

I was debating between CSG and HGA for a recent submission and ended up going with HGA. I am impressed with the quality of their slabs, label customization and the transparency that the owner seems to show to their customers. Keep in mind they are a brand new company and that there is bound to be some growing pains but I think they've done a good job.

If you end goal is value/investment purposes then you are probably better off to wait for PSA.

BOTH grade REALLY tough. I sent 15 cards in 2 different orders to CSG (including a BGS Quick grade 9.5) and got only 1 9.5

I sent 5 to HGA and had 1 9.5

I like the slabs and labels for both companies but they seem to be a little too tough on grading. Based on my past submissions with other companies, I realistically feel that I should of had 6 9.5's from CSG and 2-3 from HGA.

Not 100% sure, but considering the cost now just for PSA to take a look at the card, not to mention the extra fees they charge based on the value of the card, it only really makes sense from a financial point of view for the high end high dollar cards.

Maybe try MNT? Just playing…

If it’s a high end card, wait for PSA. All of the others comes into play if you’re grading to flip and saying that, know that you’ll get significantly less for a CSG or HGA if that ends up being your route. If it’s PC, flip a coin between MNT and a magnetic holder.

Wait them out (PSA). Why pay 30$ per on a sub par return ? Only gives incentive to PSA , BGS to jack the price up when they finally go trew the backlog. I dont think you will see a rookie crop like 19/20 bkb for a few years and doubt people are going to pay 20-30$ per for 1$ base card anymore. I doubt you will see back 10-15k graded base Prizm of almost any top 5-10 players in the draft.

I looked into the idea of submitting a few cards to CSG a while back when Dave & Adams became an "Official Submission Center". I was mostly interested in it because I'm a drivable distance away from D&A Home Office, so I can deliver my cards directly in hand to their rep.
Speaking to someone about it at the time, and this was a little while ago, I was told that, at the time, CSG only was able to grade cards of certain thickness. If my card wasn't under a thickness, they didn't have slabs to fit it.
Since most of what I wanted slabbed, mostly for protection and authenticity purposes, were thicker memorabilia cards, they weren't able to help me.

This was a few months ago, one of the last times I took the drive in, so that may have changed.
