cup emblems?

Hey, was thinking the other day how many cups a certain player has won. Wouldn't it be cool if the nhl released a little cup patch that can be put on the rim of the jersey for each cup that player has won. For instance Toews would have 1 cup on his hem while someone like Yzerman would have 2 or 3? What do you think?

Yzerman is currently retired, but would have 3 little Cup patches if your idea came to fruition. Personally, I hate the idea.

Kind of a cool idea... I know in Nascar if you have won a championship, there is a patch on your firesuit that says "Sprint Cup Champion" with the year below it. Drivers with multiple championships have each year on there. I think it could be something along the lines of a tag or patch on the inside hem at the bottom of the jersey, similar to where a Meigray tag is stitched to a jersey.

in soccer the number of team trophy wins (world cup or champions league) is placed on the jersey in the form of stars. However, the most a team has won is like 9 while the NHL has more than one team in the double digits.

To be honest, I don't really like the idea either. I suppose, for the hobby (both cards and gamers) it might be nice, but personally it would be a no.

Never liked the egocentric idea of stuff on helmets for individual achievements. It creates the players who play for the wrong reason. So this is a big no for me.

If winning the cup is the wrong reason then ....

Well Since Winning the Cup is a Team accomplishment, I could see them putting something on the Teams Jersey, however I could never see them putting it on an individual players Jersey for their past teams accomplishments...

Not practical - imagine if you're charged with the sewing of all those patches on various jerseys - and then worry about having the right number of pieces on there - way too much work for a single individual and just to keep track for something that doesn't need to be there

LOL. This is the funniest thing I've heard in years. By this statement, you'd be against each individual on a team getting a Stanley Cup ring then?

I guess we really don't want to "create" players who wanna play for a Stanley Cup sticker on the back of their helmets...

I don't like it.

If teams want to encorporate some history into the team uni, I am all for that. Come up with an emblem or a patch that celebrates team success but individual accomplishments on professional jerseys is pretty silly.

Then again, I have been playing hockey for over 30 years and have never once had a jersey with my name on the back of it - so my thinking may be a bit older school.
