Disappointing e-Bay situation

After just reading Matt's article on detailed seller ratings I felt like sharing this situation that I've recently experienced. As someone who rarely ever sells anything the dsr's don't mean very much to me. But the feedback as a seller does. In December I decided to sell my Patrick Kane SP Authentic Patch Auto. The card sold, seller paid and I left immediate feedback (just think that's what a seller should do), and two days later I sent the card express post. I saw that the card had arrived and been signed for through the Canada Post website, I waited two days and when the buyer had still not left feedback I sent him a message as I have had an item sent express post not arrive at its destination. No response, I decided to send another message asking again for verification that the card arrived and nothing in the last two weeks. It's been over a month and I've all but given up hope that I will ever get feedback for this sale. Sometimes I just don't get why buyers, or sellers would withhold giving feedback.
Sorry for the ranting diatribe.
Cheers
Dave

I wouldn't worry. You don't know what's going on with that person. Perhaps they were in a car accident or something after they received the card. They may have had their internet cut due to not paying the bills. Either way, I'm sure that they'll get around to it. I had a seller leave me feedback from a sale a month ago.

....freak... You have raised two thoughts I have emailed Ebay about more than once - and only got a reply one time.
1. Why all sellers do not leave an immediate feedback once they receive payment.
2. How to get people to leave feedback to close a transaction.
Ebay has to design some kind of system to force members to leave the feedback, to make all transactions complete. If a person does not leave feedback, and it is reported to Ebay, and the same person is reported 5 times that person can be suspended for 14 days. That gives an incentive to leave feedback.
What do you think everyone?
I know Ebay would say they lose revenue, and that the staff involved may have to be increased, but they are a huge business, and a business should serve its customers.

Ebay cares very little about whether or not people leave feedback. Why should they? And, to be honest, I don't care if a member forgets to leave feedback for me. Is it really that important?

Tell me about it. There are bigger things to be worried about than not getting feedback. I have about 10 guys I'm waiting feedback for. I don't expect anything in return.

The only thing that bugs me about not getting feedback soon is that maybe the cards didn't arrive and they're going to file a chargeback, but even then, they only have 30 days or so to file a chargeback and you have proof that the item arrived.

Also, if you want ebtter guarantees you get your feedback, I suggest waiting for them to leave you FB before you leave anything for them.

They cared about negative feedback enough to prevent sellers from leaving it for buyers.

The model eBay wanted was to have a marketplace of trusted sellers and active buyers. They did everything right in order to achieve that - discounts based on DSRs for Powersellers, eliminating negative feedback for buyers, and prevented retaliatory feedback from non-paying buyers.

Enter the down economy. With increased eBay fees, they crushed casual sellers, and active sellers - on average - are spending as much or more to make sales in lower volume with lower margins. Since the issue is largely affecting just about every one of eBay's national markets, everyone lost.

Feedback *is* important, but mostly for those just starting out. I don't envy anyone trying to build a reputation on eBay through selling right now. You might not care because your feedback is already an order of magnitude higher than what's needed to look like a professional seller, and not every last buyer feedback is important to me either - but for those looking to become sellers, or even more trusted buyers, they want it.

As a seller, the "feedback hostage" doesn't hold nearly the weight it did when you could still leave negatives for buyers. While technically, a seller's experience doesn't end until the buyer leaves you feedback, I leave feedback for all buyers upon payment in the hopes they do the same when receiving their item.

Before that change, I would reserve feedback until I received it from buyers, since the seller's experience doesn't end until you have buyer satisfaction documented through feedback.

once i sold a crosby AND ovechkin spa fw auto rc to a guy and the guy didn't leave me feedbacks.

I am one of these guys who sellers complain about not leaving feedback as a buyer. Its real simple for me, I leave feedback when I get the item. Except I don't get my mail where I live. I live in the city and I am not comfortable with receiving packages there, especially since my mailbox is small and wouldn't want the mailman to leave it on the steps. So I get my mail delivered elsewhere. Unfortunately, it is also like 30 miles away and I only get to go there maybe twice a month at most. So sometimes, It's like 3-4 weeks after I win an item before I can leave feedback for it.

And also, I only leave the "detailed seller feedback" for those with 1000+ rating. Its an annoying thing since eBay switched to that, especially because it seems to take forever for that page to load.

I dont even keep track whether or not people leave feedback for me. Doesnt matter to me. It would if I rarely made ebay transactions because I know having some feedback matters to other buyers/sellers. But now I am over 400, and what difference will it make? Except the color of the star..............
