Do you still buy REDEMPTION cards?

Theres a card I would like on ebay right now but I am very reluctant to buy it because its a redemption card.

Lately, I've passed on buying redemptions in hopes of waiting for the actual created card to surface. Which is all fine and dandy for the most part BUT the problem is the card I want is numbered to 10 and unlikely to re-appear many more times.

It's fairly expensive and I don't want to pay that much for replacement cards obviously. So I'm in a catch 22. Buy a redemption, wait a year and pray they fulfill it? or buy a heck of a replacement package?

So do you guys still pick up redemption cards? Or are you a "I'll buy it when its really created" kinda person?

Well, I have an answer but it comes from a very different perspective. I buy redemption cards often and actually welcome them. Im also only buying for resale value, not collecting. Most people have given up on redemption and they tend to sell MUCH cheaper than their created versions. I have made quite a profit in the past and will continue to do so until that stops. I realize this probably doesnt help you much, but all of my redemptions as of late have arrived in a timely manner and the exact card I was supposed to get.

I kind of agree with the statement above. You are more likely to pay a higher price for the actual card than if you bought the redemption. It may pay off and sometimes that's the risk you have to take.

It would depend on the players involved as well. If they are notorious for long redemption waits, you may want to hold off. If they tend to be good signers, then the wait time is more likely to be short.

which card is it? Is it a new redemption or from an older product? If it's a new one, I'd say pick it up. They seem to be making sure all the newer stuff gets done

I stopped buying redemptions. My problems lie with DHL though not Upper Deck. If I didn't have the problems with DHL that I had getting my last redemption I would gladly still buy redemption cards cause you can almost always get them cheaper than the real thing.

You get cards from UD through DHL??? The only cards I get from UD come in an envelope with no return addy and half the time my postal code is not even on the address sticker. I am still waiting for a Phaneuf Hot Prospects patch auto that was sent at the end of March I have emailed Barry more than a few times on this one

DHL ****s though. I had my Phaneuf Ultimate rookie called "not accepted" twice cause, and I'm guessing here, they couldn't get into my building. For soem reason they didn't have my phone number so they put my package into their destroy pile. Luckily I got there when I did..........

I lucked out because Jagr doesn't sign for UD so I never had a Jagr issue where I had to debate if I should buy a redemption card of his. But I have had to buy redemptions for sets I was working on and after the cup promised myself I would never buy another redemption card regardless of the price. It's just not worth the hassle. I find it a little easier to accept it if you buy a $5 pack and get a redemption to deal with the 12+ month wait, unanswered emails, waste of a time phone calls but it's even worse when it comes down you paid market value for a card while its hot and you have no idea if you will ever see the card.

Case in point Whitney/Kostitsyn cup rookies. You can pick them up for 50% - 60%+ less then what they were selling for and they still haven't been sent out yet.

I think I'm going to pass on redemptions. I may pick em up if they are too good to pass up but I don't mind spending the extra few bucks when the ACTUAL card is created. At least I ensure the quality card/sig, know what I mean? What good is a redemption card if you never get it, or you are disapointed with the quality of the graph, etc.

I never bought a redemption card, because Odjick isn't in UD products, and all the M-A Pouliot stuff was live.

Now, when I get redemption RCs, I trade the redemption card, because when I get the card live, everybody got his set-fillers, and the card is nearly impossible to move.

I ask Karvin for the status and then decide if I want to bid or not,... he's a great guy and made himself quite approachable. The SOTT Quad of Orr, Gretzky, Howe, Lemieux was not in house, but the card was not going to be replaced. If it were in house, I would have gone after the one on Ebay.
