Does a creased 80s card automatically grade a 1?

My buddy and I swapped Music gear for piles of memorabilia junk, and in the pile that came my way was a Mario Lemieux RC. Problem is, no sharp edges and a crease in the one corner.

I have never had a card graded, and I own very few. Is it worth it to grade a Lemieux regardless of condition, or are you just protecting nothing, lol.

No it don’t. Probably grade a 2, maybe 3 but likely a 2 as it looks off centred but it’s hard to tell by the picture. I wouldn’t grade it, throw it in a top loader and enjoy it for all its greatness. One of my favourite cards, top loader and Penny sleeve is good.

To protect it only I would only use a grading company like gma for that card. Costs very little and the grade for the poor condition of that card really is a non issue. Psa or sgc would give it a 2 at best.

If you want to grade it use PSA if value is important to you. I would never use a GMA as Muir6 said for anything unless you want to devalue your card. If protection is your concern, I’d just use a top-loader or one-touch. I think it would grade a PSA 2-3.

I'd agree with this. I guess if you did get it graded, a PSA grade would provide the added value and protection you'd need - kind of hit two birds with one stone. Grading-wise, I wouldn't waste your time with anything other than these three - PSA, BGS or SGC. GMA is a waste of money - seems like everything they grade gets a 10 and their reputation is not up to standard. KSA has had it's ups and downs, but I would still say they won't do anything for the value, but to have it graded only for protection I would take KSA over GMA. But best to go with PSA for vintage and play it safe. A 2 or 3 in a PSA slab is worth grading imo.
